WTF is up with my toenails - not fungal

Apologies for gruesome photo and please excuse the disgusting chipped nail varnish.

My toenails on both feet have been flaky and unsightly for literally years. I was tested for fungal nail some time ago but all clear.

I also have horrendously dry and cracked heels - wondering if that's related?

Does this look familiar to anyone? Any idea what it could be or how to treat it? Am so embarrassed I never wear open toed sandals.

I wonder if you're deficient in a certain vitamin/mineral, how's your diet?
How are you finger nails?

packofshunts · 30/12/2017 14:00

Finger nails are fine thankfully

Psoriasis?

absolutehush · 30/12/2017 14:03

Ohhhhh I have this on my toes and less so on my fingernails..

Nothing helpful to add, I'm really sorry! But watching with interest!

packofshunts · 30/12/2017 14:04

Is that possible just on toenails?

Totally unmedical diagnosis, but for a few quid it might help and it will do no harm - try oiling them for a week. Aldi's Lacura nail oil is very good and easy to apply with a brush.

White marks on my toenails are normally dehydration and a week or so of this week improves them greatly.

Toes 4 and 5 do look fungal to me, have those toenails been tested recently?

As for the others - do you have gel or shellac nail varnish? I find my nails go all flaky after removing gel varnish.

Looks fungal to me sorry, I’m a podiatrist. A lot of false negative tests for fungal infections in toenails I’m afraid.

Uuurgh really Punk? Do I need a GP's diagnosis or can I get an over the counter remedy?

Would that also account for cracked heels?
