Babies and stomach upsets - please help

DH and I have had nasty tummy bugs in the last 24 hours. We are now washed out but recovering. DD is just over 5 months old, and I am worried about what to do if she catches it - as she surely will. She is formula fed, and I have just started to wean her. She will not drink water, even when I try to give it to her as very diluted milk. She will take sips of juice from a beaker. Her appetite is normally good, and she is a robust baby.

What should I give her to eat and drink if she is sick, given that she will not take water? Should I continue offering her formula? Is there anything else I should do to aid her recovery? I have been lucky that DD has not really had any major illnesses just yet, and I am so worried about how a nasty tummy bug will affect such a young baby. Any advice gratefully received.

My ds had this type of stomach bug last week. I just offered him food and milk at his normal times and left it up to him what he would eat and drink. As regards the water, my ds is 10 months and drinks from a cup. Maybe you could try offering water in a bottle as your dd will not be required to learn a new skill when she is poorly and might be more inclined to take it.
