8mnth old DD wheezy sounding breathing

My 8 month old DD has been ill with a fever and cold for two days. Before this her health has been great except for a severe allergic reaction to dairy for which we are seeing a consultant.

Tonight her fever has gone but she is still really snotty and grumpy. I put her to bed like normal and noticed she was really snoring and snuffling as she slept. Then after a couple of hours she woke crying. I went to her and could not calm her or get her to BF which is very unusual. Between each scream I noticed her intake of breath was sort of squeaky sounding. Eventually I got her to sleep on me and her inhalations were still a bit wheezy sounding. She also seemed to be sucking her tummy in as she breathed in. After 30mins or so these symptoms seemed to fade. She is now in her cot sleeping quietly.

Should I be worried? Could this be asthma? Or am I being paranoid and its just a normal cold?

Artichoke - I'd get her checked out if I were you. My DS had croup recently and one of the things they were looking for when they assessed its severity was whether he was sucking in his tummy when he breathed (he wasn't). HTH.

Thanks Twinklemegan. When you say get her checked out do you mean now or tomorrow? I assume there is no need to do anything now as she is sleeping and breathing pretty normally. Do you agree?

Oh Artichoke I didn't see your message until now. How is your DD now? What did you decide to do? I think I'd have waited but just checked on her frequently and left the baby monitor on loud.
