All welcome - for anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat, so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss, but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information here (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

I have already eaten a banana, raisins, coconut and apple. I have just made a HUGE salad to eat for lunch and have already taken LO swimming! (Of course i didnt actually swim, but did alot of squating and walking in squat postion while pulling LO and saying 'kick kick kick'

On the relaxation thing, i once went to Tai Chi (sp) and at the end a man fell to sleep was snoring, so i was using all my energy to bite the sides of my mouth and not PMSL, and the man kept saying 'make sure every part of you is relaxed, even your jaw' obviously aimed at me, but i would have cracked if i relaxed!!! That was the longest 5 mins EVER!!

Filly: in reply to your D.lloyd defence, here it is about £80 for one person, £150 for a couple and then a little bit more to add children. If it was £50 for one i would be there, because its the nicest gym i have ever set foot in!!

ash6605 · 25/04/2007 12:09

CAPPUCCINO-no i'm not a member of weight watchers,or doing any particular diet,or counting points!! but i just try to eat low fat,low calorie food where possible. i eat a lot of the weight watchers soups/ready meals for lunch as a change from salads.

Today i've had toast(i know, not healthy but my vertigo's giving me hell today so please forgive me) an apple, handful of grapes and fresh orange juice.

gscrym · 25/04/2007 12:19

I've had a mandarin, some dried fruit and a berry smoothie for brekkie. Some more of the tomato/pepper and onion soup I made the other day with some wholemeal toast for lunch. I'm also looking lovingly at the carrot cake I made. 'Twood be nice with a mug of tea.

sarz · 25/04/2007 12:49

Ash, have you had medication for your vertigo? I used to suffer very bad, and would literally get out of bed and fall over! I dont remember the name of the medication, but i know it was actually for travel sickness, but it worked wonders! touch wood, i havent had it for about a year!

I just ate my big salad and also had cous cous and houmous with it. Yum Yum, just about to go polish of some strawberries!

TooTicky · 25/04/2007 13:23

Have now had lettuce, red pepper, cucumber, bean sprouts, orange, apple salad with toasted seeds. I'm doing well today!!

ash6605 · 25/04/2007 13:42

SARZ- it's the first time i have ever had vertigo,it is awful.it's been like this for a week now and is getting no better.the room is literally spinning,i feel like i'm constantly drunk!! i wish!! saw doctor yesterday who gave me an anti-sickness drug but it hasn't kicked in yet.
just had my lunch of chicken risotto with peppers and mushrooms.banana and raisins to finish.as you can see i'm not off my food!!

sarz · 25/04/2007 14:48

Ash, I know exactly what you mean! When i 1st had it, i had never heard of it (just thought it was a fear of heights!!) And i woke up one morning and the room was spinning, but just thought i was hung over but it lasted the smae the next couple of days! That 1st time ended up lasting about a month and it was dreadful, i spent most the time lying down as it was the only place i knew i could fall and hurt myself! Since then i have had it a couple of other times, but only ever lasting about 3 to 4 days. Hopefully the drugs quick in soon!!!

ash6605 · 25/04/2007 15:28

actually sarz,i'm not even convinced it's vertigo i have.as well as the dizziness i have been sick a few times and feel generally 'drained' iykwim i just want to sleep all day.also the slightest noise really irritates me,i nearly killed the dog earlier for barking at the postman! my eyes are playing havoc with me,i'm having double vision.
doctor told me to have an eye test, but i don't see how that would cause me to vomit and have ringing in my ears?
nhs direct told me vertigo is in most cases caused by something else-ear infection or high blood pressue but all my doctor did was give me a presription and send me on my way.
sorry everyone,i know this should really be in 'health'

sarz · 25/04/2007 16:14

Sorry last hijack!! Maybe its a migrane then? all those symptoms come with migranes to. I would give it til monday then see a different doctor!

ash6605 · 25/04/2007 16:48

thanks sarz,im going to have to do something soon,it's been a week already and it's getting worse if anything.we go on holiday week after next so want to be better for that!!
problem is,it's a one man surgery so don't know who else ,i can see.
never mind, back to the original thread.having roast chicken, mashed swede and carrots, broccoli cauli and sweetcorn.kids and dh having mash but i'll be good and skip that!!

Fillyjonk · 25/04/2007 16:53

oh piss, wil have to laugh at it on my own

it really was incredibly funny

to be fair it was actually a decent workout, underneath the floaty crap. And the Enya. She actually had the nerve to play Enya . Out loud . In public .

she also kept talking about "People In Africa" as is "People In Africa squat all the time, so it must be how we are designed to sit, for they are closer to nature than us". this made me want to hit her for being a patronising feckwit.

hmm am NOT selling this at all i can see

TooTicky · 25/04/2007 17:13

I used to really like Orinoco Flow

Fillyjonk · 25/04/2007 17:19

yes but thats your wombly side, isn't it?

forgiven

Greensleeves · 25/04/2007 17:19

Did anything come of the multiple threads/splitting into little squads idea?

Fillyjonk · 25/04/2007 17:20

and NOW I have orinoco flow going round my head...

NotQuiteCockney · 25/04/2007 17:21

Hmmm, I used to work with someone who'd spent ages in China and had learned to squat stably, and would do it while working on the floor or waiting for a bus or whatever.

Doesn't actually look like it's good for your knees, though.

I would be quite at the whole 'closer to nature' thing, to put it mildly.

sarz · 25/04/2007 17:23

I have 3 enya albums on my Ipod!!!!! They are great for when lying on the beach1 (well what i can remember of lying on the beach as it was 2 years ago when i last did!)

NotQuiteCockney · 25/04/2007 17:24

Um, sarz, your name change didn't work ...

Fillyjonk · 25/04/2007 17:25

oh yes i was quite angry, i did try to explain afterwards why it was patronising and wrong and tied into a whole imperialisty thing but I don't think she got it. This is one of my bugbears, the "ethnic" thing. So we pay people shite to rip of their traditional designs so that overprivileged students can waft around smelling of patchouli? yay.

she was one of those intensely chirpy types who is is much better not to get on the wrong side of though. She started telling me then how nia had been her lifeline out of depression.

so i went running, running going well

Fillyjonk · 25/04/2007 17:26

sarz thats great! its great that you feel able to share that! anyone else?

NotQuiteCockney · 25/04/2007 17:27

But ethnic people are so earth, and exotic. They're much closer to nature, and Mother Earth and all that. Their lives are so much more fulfilling and normal than ours. They often don't have anything, but they're still happy - they don't want more stuff.

Oh, the whole attitude makes me want to cry, tbh.

Fillyjonk · 25/04/2007 17:30

(nothing wrong with exercise as lifeline out of depression, just that it was a bit like, this is how I Cope, day to day..." oh dear am not explaining it well. She clearly felt it was ok to be highly patronising and feed into the whole Africa/close to nature crap because it was her lifeline out of depression.

I thought i explained quite nicely and didn't use the term majority world even once.

it is my week for barneys though

Fillyjonk · 25/04/2007 17:32

oh feck yes

I had to take a course on ecofeminism once. on the spiritaulity of "ethnic" women since they were forced to grow crops in rusty cans so their kids could eat. how this was somehow spiritual. no its feckin not.

aaaargh.

FrannyandZooey · 25/04/2007 18:00

Good evening, I have eaten: strawberries, pear, apple, raisins, beetroot (2), apple, vast stir fry with pak choi, purple sprouting broccoli, bean sprouts, mushrooms and onions
