Chickenpox - DS says his spots are painful rather than itchy - what might help?

I've seen various threads about how to help itchy spots (and we've been using oatmeal baths and calamine cream) but DS has actually been saying his spots hurt rather than itch. Any ideas about what might help him please?

Piriton Liquid helped my DD and DS.

piriton and calpol or nurofen - nurofen being an anti-inflammatry might help a fair bit.

another yes for piriton here - helped my dd.

I don't know how old DS is - with younger kids sometimes it's hard for them to find the right words (DD2 used to say she had tummyache and then puke) - anyway have you tried putting him in a bath with bicarb in the water? It's very soothing.

I took my 1 year old to the docs when he was 5 months old, because he was SCEAMING with the chicken pox, and the doc said to give him a painkiller, as they do hurt.

prition and calpol my ds sceamed in pain with them as well. he got them a day after i came home with dd who was 2days old

xxxxxlove to you and yr ds hope he gets better soon

Thanks for the thoughts - we tried calpol last night and he slept through but may give nurofen a go if it's still painful for him today. Will bear piriton in mind if it gets any worse today.

Redhotdiva, what dreadful timing! My poxy DS is 3.5 and DS2 is 2months, but you had really bad luck. Hope things went more smoothly after that.
