hi my DD 7 months has been coughing petty much through the night with it escalating this last hour.
Silly question probably but would you be concerned.
Basically I'm pants at telling if a dry cough or in chest.

how's her breathing?
has she a high temperature?

is she feeding as normal?

Twiglett · 21/04/2007 06:49

personally I'd get her checked out

Babyramone · 21/04/2007 07:03

Hi she took her bottle ok but sicked a lot up (does have reflux)
temp appears normal (37)but I only have 1 of those forehead things not sure how accurate.
She's breathing like you do with bad cold IYKWIM.
She's actually starting to settle a litle and has dropped of to sleep

I don't think a temp thing on the forehead is accurate enough.

I think she should see a doctor today.

Thanks
This is my feeling too. Will give dr a call.
Will let you know. Fingers crossed nothing

has she got a cold?

if she has a cold what might be happening is that the snot is falling back down her throat when she lies down and making her cough .. so try raising the head of her cot

I would personally check her breathing .. look at her tummy / put your hand on it .. is it sucking into her ribcage? if it is then she needs to be seen now (ie A&E)

I would get her checked out today though if she does have a persistent cough

belgo · 21/04/2007 11:10

how is she now?

LIZS · 21/04/2007 11:22

Could just be a cold/cough but could be a complication called Bronchiolitis which is very common and responds well to humidified air and keeping her with her head elevated (ie rolled towels under the mattress of cot at head end) if caught early. Is she crying normally or more quietly than normal, liek a whimper ? Is she wheezy and sucking in her chest around ribs ? If so worth seeing a dr .

AitchTwoOh · 21/04/2007 11:37

my doc said he wanted to know about every cough and puke under a year, tbh. he said it's not worth the risk of it being something bad.

AitchTwoOh · 21/04/2007 11:39

well not puke as in posset... i'm not paranoid. dd has only been to the doc's once in 16months, funnily enough she got chesty as well. doc said that they sound chestier because they can't yet clear away mucus. but the point is that he needed to see her to tell me that.

Twiglett · 21/04/2007 11:44

oo look at aitch backtrack

nally · 21/04/2007 11:50

Definitely best to get her checked out anyway - My dd had bronchiolitis at 3 months and was kept in hospital for a few days, to make sure she was feeding ok, as she could not breathe and drink at the same time. It started with a little cough, which got worse over a couple of days. I took her to my GP who admitted her to the baby ward. Once there, they monitored her and she recovered quickly. Her nagging cough only has just gone (about 2 weeks ago) and she is now 7 months old, so it can hang around.

Thanks everyone.
Sorry for delay in getting back but I work on sat's then last night and today I've had the worst ever bug, was very sick and only now able to get up. Twiglett looks like your right.
I spoke to NHS 24 and the person there heard her cough said it sounded like mucus in throat. Said she should be ok but phone if any change.
She still has cough but seems ok in herself and she is ok when upright so I've propped up her bed which seeems to be helping.
She has sneezed a lot out to which is helping.
Checked and listened to her breathing and it seems ok just a bit snotty.
To be on safe side though going to get appointment at gp tomorrow.
