TMI warning. Huge clots during period

Does anyone experience this?
I just went to the toilet as I'm on AF at the moment. It's been a bad one this time, we're TTC and I had heavy painful boobs in the lead up, cramps and I felt sick but it came on time. Anyway, the clot kind of dropped out of me and it's huge. Sort of weird shape and looks like it has a tail (sorry weird description) it's probably about the size of a strawberry (is the only way I can describe it).

This AF has been terrible Sad and to think I thought I was pregnant.

I get these as well. Really bad build up of pain, then huge clot that looks like a piece of liver passes. It's horrible. I used to take pictures of them on the tissue next to coins etc to illustrate the size. Gross I know Blush

QuestionableMouse · 11/12/2017 15:10

Could it be a miscarriage?

purplecorkheart · 11/12/2017 16:10

I get this as well. Normally about day three. Looks like a piece of liver. Can be around the strawberry size as you described if not bigger. I get awful cramps with them

SpongeCake23 · 11/12/2017 19:28

@BhajiAllTheWay That sounds like mine, I've had the liver before, but this time it was black.

@QuestionableMouse I did think it could be...or a chemical pregnancy

@purplecorkheart Did you struggle to concueve? As I am currently

I had trouble having dc1 and 4 years for dc2 and after dc2 I always have clots with my pd now and heavier bleeding - I’d put it down to age. Ask your GP, I don’t know if it is indicative for you

toomanykidstocount · 11/12/2017 19:35

Poor you, I had this too. I could literally feel it coming away inside of me and was often the size of my hand. The toilet looked like a murder scene when I had finished! Do check that you're not too anaemic as this can make it worse.

gingerbreadmam · 11/12/2017 19:39

I get clots too. Usually if I have been sat down for a long period of time. They can easily be strawberry sized.

For info if you were miscarrying the tissue you pass would be pink fleshy rather than black / dark brown however you would likely also get those. I remember the nurse telling me anything that looks like liver is clot and anything that is pink and flesh looking is products of conception as they call it.

flumpybear · 11/12/2017 19:45

I also had these during ttc- my obs said it was a very early miscarriage due to chemical or ovum not being an actual embryo
Ime they happen in ttc kept count, if you thing you're bleeding out (multiple pads over prolonged time) seek help but it may be your body getting ready - practising I'm a fucking biochemist is like a better turn of phrase here but have none lol
Good luck!! Oh by the way I passed clots when pregnant too so don't be too alarmed! Largest about potato sized!

DiscoDeviant · 11/12/2017 19:50

I get these. How old are you? Mine started around the age of 38 and have got steadily worse over the years. Terrible pain then shortly after it appears.

Nellyphants · 11/12/2017 22:19

I had this, I had giant fibroids. Worth investigating?

SpongeCake23 · 11/12/2017 22:49

@DiscoDeviant I'm 28

OP posts:
SpongeCake23 · 11/12/2017 22:50

@DiscoDeviant maybe I'm having a very very early perimenopause!

OP posts:
SpongeCake23 · 11/12/2017 22:51

@Nellyphants I'll go to the doctor in the new year, we've only been trying for 6 months so I don't think they'll do any testing just yet. But I'll tell them about the periods to see if they can investigate and see if there are any fibroids/cysts or a 'too thick'lining

OP posts:
SpongeCake23 · 11/12/2017 22:53

@flumpybear That's interesting. I rather hope it is my body getting 'prepared' as you say.
But obviously a chem pregnancy or early miscarriage is no fun.

Did you manage in the end?

OP posts:
SpongeCake23 · 11/12/2017 22:54

@woofmiaowwoof sorry to hear you had trouble.

How long did it take to conceive your DC1 if you don't mind me asking?

OP posts:
woofmiaowwoof · 11/12/2017 22:55

2 years - seemed to be that they thought some months I had a cyst that didn’t pass in the tube based on what they saw from one scan, clomid worked very fast though!

SpongeCake23 · 11/12/2017 23:00

Glad to hear that. Maybe I'll need clomid eventually. I think I am ovulating though.

Do fibroids affect fertility?

OP posts:
woofmiaowwoof · 12/12/2017 11:02

not sure sponge - we waited too long before getting proper help, and had worked ourselves up totally about it, the clomid worked the first month. Then DC2 took so long to come about, we'd just decided to look into treatment again and bizarrely I got PG the next month.

It's a funny old business - fingers crossed for you.

TammySwansonTwo · 12/12/2017 11:09

Have you always had bad periods? Have you had any investigations?

With difficulty ttc and awful periods I'd be wondering about endometriosis. I was diagnosed at 22, ended up conceiving twins naturally at 35.

flumpybear · 12/12/2017 17:01

Yes, I've gone o to have two children 👶🏻 👶🏻

Lily2007 · 13/12/2017 12:23

I had this and was a large fibroid. I would discuss with GP if ttc.

mrsBeverleyGoldberg · 13/12/2017 12:32

Go to your doctor. I had clots the size of my hand. Some looked meaty 🤢 and so obvious blood clot, almost black and connected with blood coloured goo to other clots. There are many different treatments for this. Also check to see if you're anaemic.

SpongeCake23 · 13/12/2017 23:42

@Lily2007 what do they do for fibroids?

OP posts:
SpongeCake23 · 13/12/2017 23:45

@mrsBeverleyGoldberg they're really vile aren't they? Confused 🤢 yuck!
I am going to book an appointment with my GP after Christmas to discuss this issue and the ttc, although it'll only be 6 months of trying for us next month.

I'm starting to dread AF every month now.

OP posts:
SpongeCake23 · 13/12/2017 23:47

@TammySwansonTwo I've never had any investigations done and my periods haven't always been this bad, they seemed to get worse when I came off the pill.

When I was a teen I had cramps and heavy bleeding but not like this and no clots to speak of.
