Am I allowed to ask a question even though I haven't been around for ages? Ds2 has a hole in his lip!

Hello all. I know it's cheeky, but I thought I'd try here before I get onto NHS direct.

DS2 (nearly 2) fell over today. He is fine, but inside his lower lip is a hole of about a 5 mm diameter. As I say he is not in distress, but do you think we need to get a stitch in it so that it heals right?

And although it isn't hurting him he is touching it with his tongue a lot, so it may be bothering him.

the mouth heals very quickly and tbh somehing that small certainly wouln't bother me enough to brave a&e (not to mention keep a&e that bit busier when there are really seriuous cases that need attention)

Agree about mouths healing quickly. Perhaps you could have the pharmasist look at it tomorrow?

DD stuck her teeth through her lip about 6 weeks ago, very gory and a trip to A&E required!!
The rule of thumb that the consultant told me was that if the cut crosses the lip onto the face then they stitch, if it is just on the lip they leave it.
Her lip has healed extremely well and you cant tell that anything happened.

Thank you - I am glad not to have to face A&E. It seems to have stopped just short of going through - the face is just grazed.

I triped with the hoover a few months ago (upright Dyson, bloody thing.. useless in every which way) and banged myself so hard in the face that I went through my lip both sides but not all the way through IYSWIM. It hurt like buggery for a bit but healed v.quickly. Had forgotten about that.

fisil, agree that mouths heal really fast. DS crashed his tractor (!) into the washing line last summer and bit a massive hole in his tongue - basically an indentation of his entire front teeth. Blood everywhere, lots of tears, couldn't eat that day. But two days later, he'd completely forgotten. Hasn't crashed the tractor again though into the washing line...!!

Hope DS is fine tomorrow. If it hurts or aches over night, you could always give some calpol to numb any pain.

OMG this happened to dd1 today at school. She was pushed over by some wee boy and bit almost through her lip, you can see where her tooth was just about to come out of the other side. She has two deep holes on the inside.

I was only informed about it when I came to pick her up. She has swilled her mouth out a few times and I have applied some bonjella to and all is good.
