Need a urine sample from DS2. He is 2, still in nappies and toilet and potty phobic. He won't run round without a nappy on either. luckily ther is no rush for it, sometime in the next 2 weeks

hospital will have sterile pads you can put in nappy and thrn squeeze out. call kids outpatients

mosschops30 · 19/04/2007 13:18

thats rubbish, the sticky pouches do not interfere because they dont touch the urine, it should not affect and your dr should have given you one

AnnabelCaramel · 19/04/2007 13:19

Put him somewhere, without a nappy, where you really don't want him to wee. If he's anything like mine it'll happen straighaway! Just have a container close to hand. Good luck!

MerlinsBeard · 19/04/2007 13:20

ty, i didn't think i was going crazy (yet!), will ring gp again when they reopen and if they fob me off i will camp in A&E til they give me something!(its not far fromhere)

they can contaminate and can also end up leaking anyway[dd1 has had loads of samples. Best way I found was about 20mins after a big drink strip him off, sit him on your knee with bowl underneat and a blanket of towel over and watch his favourite programme.

MerlinsBeard · 19/04/2007 13:23

annabel, he hates not having a nappy on. The only place he will happily go without is in the bath.

wonder if he will tolerate wearing some of DS1s pants.......?

This thread reminds me of when ds was in hospital with gastroenteritis, they wanted a urine sample and told me to take off his nappy and gave me a bowl to catch it in. They didn't want to give me a pouch thing because he might poo and contaminate the sample. So guess what - 11 month old with diarrhoea and no nappy - poo all over me, dh and the hospital room!! What did they expect? I flatly refused to bother with the urine sample.

Does he wee standing up in the bath? If so, strip him off and stick him in there!

AnnabelCaramel · 19/04/2007 13:24

Aah, mine's only 7 months and to him paradise is no nappy and mummy wearing a nice clean top...

WigWamBam · 19/04/2007 13:25

I had to get a urine sample when dd was still in nappies, and the nurse said that one way is to put two folded muslins into the nappy. The one closest to the nappy stops the contamination from the gel in the nappy, and you can wring out the other one. They only need a tiny amount.

Nbg · 19/04/2007 13:26

What you need to do is cut a hole in his nappy near his penis, then get a clear bag maybe like a sandwich bag, push the open bit through the hole into the nappy and sellotape the edges on to the liner.
Basically the bag will hang down between his legs and when he pees it will go into the bag and you can take the nappy off and keep the sample.

MerlinsBeard · 19/04/2007 13:28

do u know, i really thought the standard repliy top this would be along the lines of have fun chasing him around with a tiny weeny sample pot MoM, i am pleasantly surprised this is the MN i love

I have been through this with both my ds's

The hospital and the practice nurses supplied a sticky bag which I put on them and then put their nappy over the top. The only problem was trying to make sure that you could take the bag off without spilling the urine.

The other method I used was to fill the nappy with cotton wool balls and then squeeze them out after. The HV said that is the way they sometimes get one from a baby. They only need a little urine not a full pot so don't worry too much
