Psoriasis ‘cures’ anyone??

DeathByMascara · 01/12/2017 19:58

Please help! It’s growing from my hair to my face and ears - it’s noticeable. Stress is causing it, but I can’t do anything about the stressful situation, so does anyone have any remedies that work??

I had a lot of success with an exclusion diet, it was bloody hard though and the psoriasis crept back when I stopped the diet. Putting it simply, I cut out all dairy, reigned carbs, caffeine, spice, meat, alcohol, salt and common allergens (shellfish etc). After about 3 days the heat had gone from the psoriasis and within 2 weeks my skin was clear. I lost about half a stone as well.

That was years ago, since then I developed psoriatic arthritis and inject methotrexate weekly and cimzia (anti tnf) fortnightly. These both keep all the psoriasis and some of the arthritis at bay, although they make me feel like crap.

I would highly recommend the exclusion diet as a short term experiment, there's nothing to lose apart from a few pounds. I may well do it again soon to see if I can lower my meds as they're really not good long term. My GP suggested I try a vegan diet so I'm currently experimenting with a few dishes to see if I can plan a months worth of meals without resorting to junk.

Good luck Thanks

I've heard about the exclusion diet, did you have to give up nightshade vegetables too?

AutumnalTed · 02/12/2017 11:18

Breast milk! Miracle cure 😂

queenofthesheds · 02/12/2017 11:36

Antidae is spot on. Go back and demand monoclonal antibody treatment. Do it.

TommyandGina · 02/12/2017 13:00

Yes, the nightshades went as well, along with citrus fruit other than a slice of lemon in hot water with ginger

Badgertastic · 02/12/2017 19:12

Does anyone have any good resource recommendations for the exclusion diet?

Mulberry72 · 02/12/2017 19:56

I have Psoriatic Arthritis (so Psoriasis and dodgy joints, the only thing that has had ANY effect in my skin at all is a biologic drug called Seckinumab (Cosentyx).

I had Psoriasis covering my entire back, my scalp, my lower abdomen and my pubic area. After 4 injections, my skin was completely clear. My joints are still a total mess but it’s been amazing for my skin.

CactusCactusCactus · 02/12/2017 20:08

@MNHQ Could this be moved to general health as it's a really useful source of info.

Anatidae · 02/12/2017 20:12

Cosentyx is a monoclonal antibody 👍

Honestly- lifechanging. Go and demand a try of them from your doctor

Tiredmum100 · 02/12/2017 20:15

Following for advice. Currently terrible flare up all over my torso.

topcat2014 · 02/12/2017 20:23

I have severe eczema, and am resigned to dermatology and all that entails.

thought I could get through the summer thinking strong 'woo' thoughts and no drugs.

Back on the strong drugs now.

Anatidae · 02/12/2017 20:28

They won't put me on a biological as despite obviously affected joints and skin, my bloods are now just at the higher end of normal.

They will try everything not to - they are expensive. It’s well worth being a polite pain in the area and nagging for a try of them. Or ask if there are any clinical trials of new biologicals - often you’re allowed to continue the medication after the trial ends.

Anatidae · 02/12/2017 20:31

Right - this link will let you see what’s happening with clinical trials near you. Put psoriasis and your postcode in
www.ukctg.nihr.ac.uk/trials?query=%257B%2522query%2522%253A%2522Psoriasis%2522%252C%2522location%2522%253A%2522London%252C%2520United%2520Kingdom%2522%252C%2522latLon%2522%253A%252251.5073509%252C-0.12775829999998223%2522%257D

For the scalp I've found the Philip Kingsley flaky itchy shampoo good for helping a flare up, and then the L'Oréal low shampoo for every day.

MadMumToThree · 02/12/2017 21:05

DH has suffered for about 30 years (since we married strangely lol) tried all the usual lotions and potions. It has been much better since light therapy and he is now taking Salmon capsules which seem to be keeping it at bay. Not totally gone but much improved.

TommyandGina · 02/12/2017 21:21

@Badgertastic try Liver Detox Plan by Xandria Williams. That was recommended to me by someone who saw my psoriasis, their sister had had success with it previously. I picked the bits out of the book that I though got were manageable.

BitOfFun · 02/12/2017 21:22

I agree that a referral is essential to really tackle it. I spent a full month on a ward with complications arising from psoriasis this time last year, and have at last had meaningful relief with appropriate drug treatment and regular infusions of immunosuppressants.

The consultant was very clear to me that I could help myself too by avoiding anything which produces an inflammatory response in the body, like alcohol and smoking.

Badgertastic · 02/12/2017 21:30

Thanks @TommyandGina

Allthebubbles · 02/12/2017 22:14

Following with interest. I have outbreaks of guttate psoriasis which has left residual small plaques on my torso and flexural psoriasis in most skin folds.
I use protopic on my flexural patches and that works well.
My two major flares of guttate were cleared by light treatment and all my flexural patches cleared too. At the moment I don't have enough skin covered to qualify for UVB treatment.

Another vote for not using steroids on your face. I stupidly tried it on a patch of rashy skin on my face and got perioral dermatitis. Azaleic acid gel 15% does seem to clearing it. I was interested to read the study about its use on psoriasis patches.

I hate psoriasis and I know I don't have it badly but it is just so bloody persistent.

Lackingimagination6 · 03/12/2017 00:28

Methotrexate and Cimzia here too plus occasional steroid injections for flares. I think some clinics are quicker to prescribe than others. I'm treated at Guys and they are brilliant.

FreshHerbs · 03/12/2017 01:08

A friend of a friend tried everything out their to clear hers up, was all over her body and face. She swears by juice plus capsules, I've seen various ppl selling this here and there as one of those work from home opportunities like forever living etc and various before and after pictures on Facebook. This woman in question who I no off has more or less got her psoriasis in hand and it is a lot less obvious she suffers with it, she has nothing on her face these days I see her.

BitOfFun · 03/12/2017 04:00

JuicePlus is a complete rip off. I would beg anybody reading this thread to google it so you can see what a scam it is.

Anatidae · 03/12/2017 06:59

Juice plus is an MLM scam, as is forever living and all the other ones.

Please do NOT waste yout money on this rubbish.

Karigan1 · 03/12/2017 07:13

Had it for years. It responds differently for everyone so all I can tell you is what works for me:

General body: Vaseline intensive care moisturiser (brown or yellow one best) and a hand held derma healer uv light that I picked up from amazon for £100. If I get a wide spread flare up I have to go see the dermo to use their big machine though as it’s only tiny.

Face: daily routine using boots no 7 - hot cloth cleanser, night and day moisturiser and rejuvenate oil

Hair: sebco

Book into see the dermo now as average waiting time is 8 months nhs

Karigan1 · 03/12/2017 07:14

Oh and vitamin d with k2 daily
