Swollen tender cheek after trip to the dentist

Went to the dentist yesterday morning for a filling. All went well (so I thought) and wandered out with a ridiculously numb face but happy with the results.

After the 3 hours the dentist said it would take to wear off my face was still numb and with the tooth being at the front on the top it was my cheek and the side of my nose as well. It eventually started to wear off after about 7/8 hours!

This morning I woke up and my cheek under my eye felt a little swollen and tender to the touch. As the day has gone on it’s started getting a red mark and is still swollen.

I spoke to the dentist he said he might of hit a blood vessel with the needle and that it might bruise! I’ve got an appointment next week to go back and get it checked.

Has anyone ever heard of this happening? I’ve stupidly googled and some nasty pictures are coming up along with people saying it could take 3 weeks to heal!!!

Any ideas?
