Had a stinking head cold since Saturday and now have the sorest throat I’ve ever known - like a lump on the left hand side and so painful to swallow.

Been taking paracetomol and ibuprofen (having little effect). Now have some co codamol - I took paracetomol two hours ago so is it ok to take co codomol now ?!

Going to GP first thing in the morning

Wait two hours.

Can you gargle some salty warm water?

SueGeneris · 20/11/2017 20:06

I don't think so. It's paracetamol and codeine isn't It, in which case you'll have to wait another 2 hrs.

StrawberryLemonade · 20/11/2017 20:06

No because cocodamol have paracetamol in. Needs to be 4 hours from your last dose of paracetamol and no more than 4g paracetamol in 24 hours in total, from paracetamol alone or cocodamol.
Hope you feel better soon.

LottieandSeth · 20/11/2017 20:11

I’ve garlgled the salt water - not really helping - it’s going to be a bloody long two hours waiting to take the stronger tablets ☹️

Yes you need to wait longer.

I get this occasionally after I've had a cold. I keep a bag of emergency ice cubes and stuffing them in my cake hole normally works wonders (the relief only lasts while the cube are actually there, though).

Sorry I can't remember the name but when I had a really sore throat a few years ago, I used a numbing spray from the pharmacist. It felt weird but really did help. Much better than a salt water gargle anyway,

CauliflowerSqueeze · 20/11/2017 20:18

How about getting a soluble paracetamol and gargling with that. It helped me today

CottonSock · 20/11/2017 20:19

Not a medic... codeine or asprin?
Difflam spray or gargle

ThomasRichard · 20/11/2017 20:19

Numbing throat spray is pretty good.

I had my tonsils out earlier this year. I was on oramorph afterwards but I’ve had more painful sore throats. Sympathies, OP Flowers

LottieandSeth · 20/11/2017 20:22

Thank you everyone. I had my tonsils out 25 years ago and now when I get a sore throat it always feels raw if that makes sense.

Chloreseptic (sp?) Numbing spray. Sympathies op.

Efferlunt · 20/11/2017 20:30

You need to wait but gargling with soluble paracetamol or aspirin will be a much more effective way of treating a sore throat

LottieandSeth · 20/11/2017 20:31

No throast spray so DH digging around the freezer to see if ice cream helps

You might be able to take more ibruprofen though. The max dose is higher than the box, but speak to a pharmacist.

LottieandSeth · 21/11/2017 10:18

Been to GP - acute tonisilitos even though I had the bloody things out at 19 ! Have penicillin - hope that kicks in quick - I want to sleep !!
