Hi, I am booked to have a minor op and I am just looking again at the info sheets. Why can't use deodorant and why can't I chew gum when I am fasting before the op?
Just interested. Thanks

Deodorant and talc will make it very difficult to attach any ecg sticky things to your skin.It is also an infection risk in theatre.
If you have anything in your stomach you risk aspirating (the contents going into your lungs ) during aenesthetic and that is why they will also give you something pre op to neuralise your stomach acid contents.
Sorry if it all sounds a bit scary but its just routine.

I wore antiprespirant and chewed gum.

I didn't swallow it!

I wore foundation and powder, too.

So if you became ill your face would have stayed pink instead turning blue-cool!
