Toothache - root canal but have to wait 8 days for treatment

I’ve had on and off toothache for a couple of months now - usually when I eat/drink something hot.

Last week it got worse. I was in agony and managed to get an emergency appointment on Friday afternoon.

The dentist thinks things have come to head because I’ve had recently had a really bad cold. She wants to do root canal work but because of half term and me bing away Wed to Fri they can’t fit me in until Tuesday 31st.

Today it’s been truly awful. The pain is unbearable. I’m taking co-codamol every 4 hours and also have clove oil and now Orajel. I feel totally spaced out on the co-codamol and am now not looking forward to my 3 days in London, which was supposed to be my half term treat!

Is there anything else I can try or should I ring in the morning and beg the receptionist to find me an appointment.

I am also waiting on a root canal treatment, so sympathise. If you can get an emergency slot - my practice has these every day if you ring at 8.30 - the dentist should be able to drill out the nerve so it stops hurting, and seal it up with a dressing and temp filling. I think this is the first bit of the RCT anyway other than the sealing up part, then she would do the rest of it, cleaning the actual canals and sealing them, on the 31st.
