DS is 2.3. He has had diarroeah with a high temp for 72 hrs now. The diarroeah has been going on a day or so longer than this and back at the weekend he was vomitting too. He has eaten nothing since a bit of breakfast on Monday and basically seems to be going downhill.

I was encouraged yesterday when he had a 4.5hr sleep in the daytime- thought he might wake a little better. But no, more lethargic than ever. I stupidly gave him some half strength milk which went straight through. Then put him to bed at 7. He is still there at 9am this morning and doesn't want to get up

How bad does this sound? Any experiences? GP saw him yesterday and just said probably a virus etc and to come back Fri if no better.

My DD (11 months) also had diarroeah over the weekend. Took her to hospital. They told me to just keep an eye on her.
To give her lots of sugary drinks and no milk or food for 24 hours and then to increase the milk supply - quater strengh and then build it up over a week to full strengh.

Good luck. Hope he gets better soon.

Thanks tasja, DS has had diarroeah bugs before but is normally fineish in himself. The fact that he is so lethargic and the high temp has made this time more worrying.

He eventually woke this morning at 10.30 . He went to bed at 7 last night. He has now gone back to sleep again after eating about 15 cornflakes. His temp seems to have gone. So I'll just leave him to sleep as long as he wants and offer bland foods?

camera, not an expert on this I'm afraid but I just wanted to say what I would do is keep a very close eye on his temperature; if it is now down, that's great, but if it stays up don't hesitate for a second to get him to the dr's again today, don't feel you HAVE to wait till tomorrow. Even if the dr says the same thing again, at least you have your peace of mind.

And sleep is definitely the best medicine my ds slept his way through a recent virus which is most unlike him....their bodies know what they need. It'll help him mend all the quicker.

sunny, I agree- the high temp was worrying. I had got DS a dr's appointment for 12pm (much as they said they had none to start with). But then he woke and his temp had gone down so I judged it best to keep him at home and cancelled. I was syringing in dioralyte earlier (I know that's all they'll prob do if he ends up at A&E) but he has been drinking a fair amount of water throughout.
