No AF but not pregnant - should I go to the docs?

Its now over 6 weeks since my last AF - i've had my tubes tied just before my last AF so there should be no chance i'm pregnant - they said as long as you had one period after the op then you would need no contraception. I bought a preganacy test this morn and it was def negative so why no AF? should i go to the GP?
