DS2 9 months really bad with Chicken Pox

DS1 3.5 had Chicken Pox and was a bit under the weather but Bicarb, Calamine and Calpol kept it all under control.

Now DS2 9 months has it and since last Wed he has been really struggling. The doctor gave me a Piriton type medicine for the itching but I don't think the spots on the surface are the issue. He can't keep any food down and vomits up his milk as well. He's been having dyralite for the past 4 days and we've had to resort to giving him Medised at night because the first two nights he couldn't settle to sleep and was becoming exhausted on top of everything else. 6 days on....not sure what to do. I'm really worried about his lack of nourishment and having to give Medised on an empty stomach.

Is this common? Any experience of how long this might go on for? I thought the younger you were the less the disease was supposed to take hold!

robin3, he sounds much more poorly than he should, I would definitely take him to see the doctor for reassurance (dd2 had cp recently and a week after them had a terrible chest- bronchitis and lots of other things are known complications of cp but I've not heard of vomiting etc)

sounds like he could have another bug on top of the chicken pox - either a secondary infection or a totally different infection. Take him back to the doctors.

(two people in my office have called in sick with tummy bugs today)

My DD at 8 months when she had chickenpox was not particularly unwell. This does not sound right and I agree you should take him back to the doctors. Wishing you all well soon.

Thanks everyone for this. Took my little soldier back to the doctor and she gave us some antibiotics....didn't say that the symptoms were unusual but I gathered that he might have a chest infection as well!

Anyway...given him frequent mini-feeds of milk and he seems much brighter today. Spots almost gone. Happy to have some progress and have him smiling again.
