Coughing up thick green/yellow phlegm

I've had a bad cough for about a month which has gradually been improving and isn't too bad now, but I'm now coughing up lots of phlegm. It's thick and green/yellow in colour. It feels like it's coming from just above my throat, between my throat and nose, if that makes sense. It seems to build up and then travel down a bit and I'll then bring up a large amount of phlegm. I'm anxious about my health and I'm undergoing treatment for my anxiety so I'm hoping someone in the know will tell me this is normal so I don't waste any more of my GPs time.

Usually NHS stuff says to see the doctor if you’ve had a cough for longer than 3 weeks. I’d go. You could also see the pharmacist and see what they can suggest.

I've seen the gp about the cough, I just don't want to go back about the phlegm if I can avoid it.

It just sounds like an infection, so seeing the doctor would mean you got antibiotics.

Do they give antibiotics for that sort of thing? I thought it was only if the infection is bacterial which I don't think they normally are?

I'm probably wrong with that though.

I’ve only ever gone to a doctor about a cough when it’s been over a month with phlegm like that. They’ve always given me antibiotics and said it’s a chest infection. If you’re worried about speaking to the doctor though then just go to the pharmacy and speak to them. They’re usually really helpful

Thank you caulk the strange thing is, it feels like the phlegm is coming from between my throat and nose (sinuses maybe) and travelling down, rather than coming from my chest.

You could be right about the phlegm coming from your sinuses, but if it gets to your chest you will need ABI would go back to your Dr ,anyway, probably a sinus infection
