Rosacea in children

I think my son's got rosacea. The photo on the rosacea website (scroll down, not the woman with the teeth!) suggests that's exactly it. However, googling suggests its very unlikely amongst children. Does anyone here know of it?

He's had it since very small and he's now 6. He did have a milk allergy and came out in "milk rash" (whatever that is) from just a couple of months old. That did clear up though and he doesn't have the same milk allergy symptoms (has milk fine now) but his skin is still quite red and blotchy, and sometimes a bit pimply. I've pointed it out to the doctors a couple of times but no one seems bothered (it's not exactly life threatening I know). It seems it's not going away, and I would like to get it sorted before he gets self conscious. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

is it excema?

does it flare up when he has a cold or runny nose?

Hi zippi, I don't think it's eczema, he gets very small patches of that on his torso and this isn't the same stuff. The skin itself doesn't look broken, just occasionally pimply. And I've only really noticed that it seems to get worse in cold weather, but doesn't clear up in good weather. I've tried E45 on it some years ago - didn't do much for it I have to say.

Confused

i have sort of broken red vessels on my skin and have had them for years, though they are like little broken veins could it be the same sort of thing? mine get worse in winter and i just got a lovely one on the bridge of my nose.

it sounds as though it is something to do with circulation..possibly

I think acne rosacea is an adult thing but might be wrong

PeachesMcLean · 10/04/2007 08:14

Thanks both of you. sorry I'm taking so long to respond, my mother has just arrived for the week so I'm trying not to MN (Lord it's difficult!)

Zippi, tel me more about the circulation thing. I've never noticed him get particularly cold hands or feet if that helps.

SEA - yes, that's it, a bit like broken veins when it's bad. Just a general flush when it's not looking so bad. Is there anything you do about it?

I think really I just want someone to say it's absolutely never ever to do with cows milk protein allergy, because that would be a real pain....! We've always assumed he's ok now (doesn't have diarrhoea or blood in his poo anymore) but it's still in the back of my mind and it would be sooooo difficult to not do dairy again.

with me i think it's genetic. also i am very pale. when i looked into treatments, the only advice i could find was to get them lasered.
