GP found a suspect mole on my stomach at a routine checkup (on the underside of my bump so i cdn't even see it!) and all of a sudden am booked into hospital next week for a biopsy and i think removal. he swears its all very minor procedure with local anaesthetic bla bla but am worried cos it's actually over where the baby is (now 35 weeks and its kicking like donkey so my stomach doesn't even stay still any more....). has anyone had anything similar?

I have had a mole shaved off but not a biopsy. It was tender but healed quite quickly - on bra strap line so couldn't wear a bra for 3 weeks. Not the same I know but hopefully bumping for you!

I'm now 38 weeks pg and had a mole removed(cut out)from my leg, when I was around 22 weeks.I was told it was perfectly safe but they had to use an anaesthetic without any adreneline,if I remember rightly.Good luck-I'm sure you'll be fine.

People often have ops when pg, woodstock - try not to worry! Piffle had her appendix out when about 20 weeks pg iirc (and so did JARM). I had my appendix out and got pg less than a week later so my scar is still relatively "fresh" iyswim but it's not causing me any grief (time will tell, only 25 weeks atm!).

All the best. Don't put it off

I wouldn't not have it done I wouldn't worry about the precedure and the effect on hte baby but I would ASK what effect having the mole taken from Stetched skin and how it will heal as the area goes from stretched to saggy to (hoepfully) taught again over hte coming weeks and months.

The anaesthetic is local i.e. give into your skin, so there is no way it will come into contact with your baby. They use a tiny wee needle, so they aren't going to slip and plunge it into your belly or anything! The process will take minutes and a couple to stitch it afterwards. I had a biopsy done and was in and out in less than 15 minutes.(that included all the paper work and wound care chat!)

There really is no risk to your baby. I think it is far more important to have it removed and checked out for the sake of you own health.

sorry been offline all weekend as we have just moved house (thought i'd do all the possible stressful things in one week...). thanks a lot, all this is very reassuring, feel much better about it now (thank god for MN)!
will ask about the skin stretching thing definitely SlightlyMadSpringBunny - if only to indulge in the fantasy that my stomach will ever be taut again....
