MMR - what age

Can anyone tell me what age the MMR is given? My DS is nearly 19mths and not had it. With all his other jabs he was sent an appointment automatically. I've got to admit I haven't chased it yet because I am a little scared!

My DD had the MMR at 13 months after being called by the GPs. TBH I wish I had waited longer until she was older and stronger.

In ireland it can be any time over 12mths. Used to be 15mths but they brought it forward for some reason. Haven't seen any adverse reports of the lowered receiving age tbh

at 12+ months here

18 mths is fine. that's when dd1 had hers and I'll probably get dd2 hers then too.

lou33 · 15/07/2004 10:24

ds2 had his aged 2.

Later (post 15-18 months) is better as it means the measles component is more likely to work. The timing was altered in the States originally to tie in with a booster they were given at 12 months (as far as I can work out anyway).

Thanks, started to think I was a bad mother for leaving so long. Although I did think the appointment would be sent through the post I didn't really want to push the issue as im nervous about all the things you read in the press and not afraid to say im scared about putting ds through it! Thanks again

My ds had his at 14 months simply because we had a lot of summer travel ahead and I wanted him to have got over any effects by then (there were none, he didn't even need any Calpol right afterwards). As he is so big for his age I think he was physically more like 18 months, so he was fine. Wait till then if you like, nobody's forcing you. After all the recommendation used to be 12-18 months, they only stepped it up to get higher participation.

skerriesmum · 15/07/2004 12:55

Oops only read quickly that your ds is 19 months. Go on and get it done and out of the way!
