Has anyone had this cough that just will not go away?

First it went through my kids - none of them were particularly ill with it, but the cough has gone on and on and on. For several weeks. Now I've had it for 2 weeks or more and the cough part is just getting worse. We're usually a pretty healthy bunch, in fact I can't actually remember the last time I had a cold. What on earth is this, some kind of mutant virus? How long will it take to clear up, and is there anything we can do to help shift it?

If it's the cough I had at the start of the year, you're looking at 6-8 weeks, sorry! I think it was in the press in January as so many people were falling to it (google "hacking cough" for round that time)

I've had it for nearly 6 months now ... might be going now but scared to say that out loud

I had it for about 5 months at the start of the year.

It eventually went away.

I'm 7 weeks in here, it's going, but at a very tired snails pace. Hoping I finally get rid by xmas

Had an x-ray about 2 months in (clear), then a course of antibiotics (nope), then steriods (nope) ... now I am waiting for an ENT referral
