Has anyone taken diazepam? What does it feel like?

I am petrified of flying (flying tomorrow) my doctor has given me diazepam to relax me as I suffer from awful anxiety and sickness on planes.

I've not taken it before. How does it make you feel? I'm worried it will make me sick

To be honest, it just makes me really sleepy so I just slept if I took it

TrunkiTrailer · 11/09/2017 19:24

I have a phobia of vomiting so am very wary of any medicine that might nauseate me but diazepam really doesn't. I just feel very relaxed and zen.

peanutbear · 11/09/2017 19:24

I took it the other week for flying I don't think I felt any different but I was definitely able to talk myself through my fear more rationally

user1497207858 · 11/09/2017 19:26

@peanutbear what mg did you take?

What strength? I had to drink wine to get it to work. A fear of flying hypnosis tape helped me best.

peanutbear · 11/09/2017 19:27

It's 2 mg I think and I took 2 didn't sleep though which is what I wanted to do

Bluntness100 · 11/09/2017 19:28

Have you got a spare one? You should absolutely take one to try before you get in the air, I'm caae you have a bad reaction, trying medication for the first time at 30.000 is not a good idea ever.

peanutbear · 11/09/2017 19:29

Oh and I did drink to explain my fear I havnt flown for 17 years so this was my first ever abroad holiday
I used to fly for work and the fear stopped me

Showandtell · 11/09/2017 19:29

2mg is nothing. It might take the edge off.

WunWun · 11/09/2017 19:30

I would take one tonight to see your reaction.

peanutbear · 11/09/2017 19:31

I'm asking for stronger ones next time what do you suggest

Showandtell · 11/09/2017 19:34

I was given 5mg for a muscle spasm. It makes you feel very cosy. I didn't like it much tbh

thecatfromjapan · 11/09/2017 19:35

I like it Grin - it makes me feel very relaxed. I'm quite an anxious person and diazepam just takes me to a place where I realise my anxieties aren't real. I'm fully conscious and rational, just a bit chilled and (perhaps) a tiny bit sleepy (though that is partly just a part of feeling relaxed enough to sleep).

Alas, I am not prescribed diazepam. Sad I can't help but feel I'd enjoy life a whole lot more!

user1497207858 · 11/09/2017 19:41

My doctor gave me 5mg and have been told not to drink at all. Maybe it will knock me out completely if I do. It's only a 2 hour flight but I didn't go on holiday last year a day tomorrow I was due to go because my fear is so large. I'm not anxious right now I could be sick so I'm hoping these tablets work

I mean a day before I was meant to go

I can't even write! I mean I am anxious right now

Showandtell · 11/09/2017 19:44

Take one now!

Branleuse · 11/09/2017 19:50

I find it makes me feel relaxed. If i take it at night, it helps me sleep.

A lot of people take it for flying. If I were you, id maybe take one the day before the flight too if you get very anxious then, and then on the day of the flight too
