Doctor wants to check cervix after smear test

Hi,
I had my smear test last month (I'm 33 and this was the first one I've had done, feel awful I've left it so long), the smear test was ok but it bled quite a bit during the test and lightly for 2/3 hours after. The nurse said as this was my first one it was normal though and would expect some bleeding, she asked if I ever bled after sex which I don't, she said everything looked ok but she may not have got enough cells so don't be surprised if my results come back asking for another text. I've received a letter today from my docs saying the nurse checked with the doctor for some advice after my test and mentioned the bleeding and the doctor would like to see me to check the cervix looks normal.
Ive rang to make an appointment but I feel really worried now. I cried on the phone to the poor receptionist and she said the doctor is just following it up and the nurse thought it looked ok and there is nothing worrying on my notes.
But now I feel sick with worry! Has anyone else been called back in after a smear before the results are back?

Sorry meant I had my test last week not last month!

I think they are just being thorough. Try not to worry x

Don't worry. I'm guessing you haven't had your results back yet?

Leatherboundanddown · 30/08/2017 15:51

It sounds like you may have a cervical ectropion which bled when she scraped it and she is just being cautious and getting you checked. I have this and every smear ends up being sent back for a repeat due to blood contamination in the sample. Try not to worry.

Ttbb · 30/08/2017 16:03

Probably not an issue. If you haven't had children recently either it wouldn't be at all surprising if you bled.

uka888 · 30/08/2017 16:29

No not had children and not had the smear test results back yet. Feel so stupid for not having a test before now. I really hope it isn't anything serious, I'm not great at not worrying at the best of times lol I'm so worried it's the dreaded c :-( !

If you haven't had your results yet just try and relax (difficult I know)

My first smear test was abnormal but can't fault the testing/ treatment and care I received. My smears have been clear since.

uka888 · 30/08/2017 16:51

I'm just concerned that the doctor wants to see me to examine my cervix due to the bleeding, before ive even got the results back from the smear. I guess it's good the nurse was proactive and asked the doctors advice and she is checking me over, just really hope it isn't bad!

I have just spoken to the receptionist at the doctors again to see if there is any more info on my notes and she said it just says the doc wants to double check due to the bleeding and I said had the nurse seen anything to be concerned about she said no it's just a precaution... I'm so worried though I can't stop thinking about it!

I've had nurses make me bleed. The blood usually means the sample isn't good enough. It may be back already as not good enough for testing. Doctor will examine you which is good and may well take another smear.

I refuse to go to the nurses any more. Too painful, or don't take it properly, or make inappropriate comments about my cervix being in the wrong place - it's tucked away.

People say nurses are better at smears than Drs. Not in my experience. At my new surgery a lovely lady Dr will do it for me, painless and perfect and she doesn't chat shit or ask inappropriate questions. At my old surgery drs wouldn't do smears so I paid privately.

You will get a proper examination, better advice and a well taken smear from the Dr so just go. When is your appointment?

uka888 · 01/09/2017 13:06

My appointment is later this afternoon, I'm so worried, when I had my test the nurse said the results come straight to me not via the doctors so I don't think they would know the results yet.
I'm just really worried the nurse saw something concerning but she didn't want to say. I'm so stupid for not having a test before 33.

There is no point dwelling on the fact you have left it so long to have your first smear. The main thing is that you had it done.

Good luck for your appointment with your GP.

Try not to worry about the results until you receive them. If it shows abnormal cells, you will be offered treatment straight away.

Do you know how your results are rated?

PollyPerky · 01/09/2017 16:30

It is most likely an ectropion. Your GP would not be able to tell much by looking anyway- but they could spot an ectropion.

uka888 · 01/09/2017 19:13

Hi, I've had my appointment she had a look at my cervix and took a swab thing, it bled again but not as much as last time, she said because it bled and the sample may not come back clear she would like to refer me for a coloposy. She said she couldn't see anything that concerned her and it may be sensitive because there is a ectropion which is completely normal. She is going to send off an urgent referral and I should have a letter from the hospital in 7-10 days. I can't stop worrying 😒. She said some people never have smear tests so I shouldn't beat myself up too much but I can't help it.

She has referred you because she couldn't get a clear sample, not because she has seen anything to worry about. I know it's hard not to worry, but I think they are just being thorough Flowers

Garliccalamari · 01/09/2017 21:49

I've bled after smear tests and I've had to repeat two of them. They were fine, nothing abnormal. My cousin had an abnormal one and they told her to repeat it because they found abnormal cells. They did some extra testing but couldn't find anything. The body must have cleared it up by itself.

Please believe her if she says that she didn't see anything abnormal. They tend to repeat if the sample isn't good enough for testing, it doesn't mean that something is wrong. They are just being extra thorough. Please try not to worry too much, it really happens a lot.

lovemylover · 02/09/2017 10:04

What is an Ectropion?

uka888 · 02/09/2017 10:10

Thank you everyone for your comments, im réally finding it hard to stop thinking about it! The only thing she did say was my cervix looked frazzled?! And there was a bit of discharge so she took a sample of that at the same time. But she did say she hasn't seen anything that's made her overly worried. I haven't had any bleeding since a bit of spotting for about an hour after so I'm hoping that's a good sign. One of my friends had abnormal results and had to have the lettz op and will now be checked once a year so she's reassuring me but I'm so worried I've left it so long before having a test they are going to find something that's progressed and is really serious. I just hope I would've had some symptoms if there was something bad there.
