If I am at home and I call one of the family and they call back I have started to have difficulty locating where they are calling me back from. For instance I think DD is upstairs and she is in the living room etc.

I don't feel that my hearing is affected in any other way. Any ideas?

no idea, but can you test this directional hearing somehow? see how your hearing compares to other people - get a few friends round and call each other from different rooms in you house perhaps? not much help with a diagnosis but at least it might highlight if you have a weakness here compared to other people.

Hi Tigermoth, I've only noticed it the last month or so, it is really weird as I keep thinking that the family are in places that they aren't!

I have this problem, no directional hearing at all. How is it if there is complete silence? I ask because as long as it is quiet, no tv/radio/music I am normally okay but otherwise I am screwed.
I have a genetic hearing loss at high frequency's which means I cannot hear well when there is background noise. I also can't hear high pitched ringtones or babies screaming unless it is through a monitor(lucky me!) It didn't manifest until I was in my 20's.

I would get it checked, could be nothing, could be your ears are a bit blocked, but you never know, ask your gp for a referral to ENT dept.
