I've been aware for a while now that I can see my abdomen pulsating when I lay down. If the cat lies on me she literally bounces up and down!![shock}

I mentioned this to my GP when I went for something else recently. He looked at it and was a bit surprised, he had a feel and said that my aorta was on the large side so I should mention it to the endocrinologist when I go re my overactive thyroid in May. They will probably scan it to be sure it's ok. He did reasssure me by saying I don't fit the category for probs with my aorta as I'm young, no overweight, not a smoker or a heavy drinker etc, but I'm still worried about it.

So just for my peace of mind, would you please lay on the sofa for a minute, look at your belly and tell me if it bounces or not!

Yes. Mine does too. I was being examined by a gastroenterologist who expressed surprise at my very palpable aorta. I, like you, am a non-smoker, non-drinker and slim in build. I'm in good health so it doesn't bother me.

TrinityRhino · 01/04/2007 12:09

thought theaorta was a valve in your heart

jalopy · 01/04/2007 12:10

Your thinking of the aortic valve. The aorta is a whopper blood vessel.

TrinityRhino · 01/04/2007 12:11

oh right, thanks

podgegl20 · 01/04/2007 12:11

Both mine and my dh's does.It seems more obvious at certain times but there doesn't seem to be any pattern.

McCadburysDreamyegg · 01/04/2007 12:33

Yes mine does too, it just means your aorta runs fairly close to the adominal wall - nothing to worry about (usually)

BigEggLittleEgg · 01/04/2007 12:51

Mine does too. Always used to think it was a weeny baby in there that i didn't know about that was giving me little kicks .

Thanks for all you replies. I'm relieved to hear so many of you have the same thing. I'm not a freak after all!

You are not alone - my doctor was so surprised he sent me for a scan just in case there was a problem - there wasn't.

3easterbunniesandnomore · 01/04/2007 13:51

I ahve this, too...not so much noticable to the outside, but I can feel it, if you know what I mean...weird stuff, lol....
