Drug half-life: can someone please help me work out whether I'm safe to drink when I go out tonight?

I have been taking 5mg diazepam 3 x day for 10 days. My last dose was Sunday morning, so just over 100h ago.

Diazepam half-life is 21-37h, so at worst estimate I've still got some in my system since the last dose, but how much? I don't understand how or if the earlier doses affect the final figure.

Am I safe to drink tonight? Not much, maybe half a beer and a glass or two of wine maximum.

Why cant you get a taxi? I belong to the drink and no way drive club.

Drinking and driving do not mix at all, especially if you have recently been on strong medication, its not worth the risk IMHO

You have pretty much negligible levels in your system after about 5 half lives.

StepAwayFromCake · 24/08/2017 17:51

OMG I'm not going to drive!

Seriously, I'm shocked that anyone would think it ok to drive after a few drinks, even without worrying about the diazepam.

We're walking.

I think the worst that would happen to you is that you would be extra sleepy. It's not the recommended thing but in the 1960s people were given diazepam to help them sleep and told to wash it down with a few drinks Shock The safest thing to do is probably ring a pharmacy and speak to a pharmacist and ask - they'll know how long it usually stays in your system for.

FWIW I didn't think you meant driving at all. You meant would the mixture make you really drunk. So drunk you'd pass out or whatever!
