I have to have this next week.

Please please can anyone who has had this before tell me what to expect and if the side effects are bad.

They are glossing over it at the hospital - mini menopause..nothing to worry about

I had these for 6 months last year for pelvic congestion. The main side effects I had was the hot flushes! Passed out one time in asda (the shame!) Middle of summer too which didnt help.

Towards the end of each month (had to have them 4 weekly) my legs started to itch really bad and they stopped my periods (which was the point of them if i remember rightly lol)

I had my last injection sept, fell preg end of oct! So use contraception if your not already lol!

They always gave me the jab in my belly by pinching fat, stung for a little sec or two but fine really. My hot flushes got reallly bad i tried HRT tablets but tbh they didnt agree so i got some magic cool spray and carried that everywhere!

Good luck hun and let me know how you get on. Id be interested to know why your having it to if you dont mind answering that!

I'm on a similar drug at the moment (not Zoladex but one that does exactly the same thing). I take HRT with it.

I too got hot flushes once it kicked in (if you are not at the menopausal age, you will get these after a while becuase it's somethign to do with decreasing the oestrogen levels quickly) but the HRT sorted them out!

It doesn't kick in straight away - I think, from memory, it may take a few weeks before you feel any effects. My stomach is often a bit upset for a few days after each one (I have to have them jabbed in my bum!).

Have had it--it really wasn't so bad. A few hot flushes, I thought I was coming down with something the first couple of times, but then I got used to it.

Mini-menapause sounds bad, though, doesn't it?

FrayedKnot · 31/03/2007 23:03

I had them for 6 months as treatmetnt for endometriosis.

I did start to get hot flushes after about 2 months but they weren't that bad so I never had the add-back oestrogen.

The injections were fine and I had no other side effects.

I'm sure you will be fine!

Oh yes, of course, AF stops too.

Just come back to this..thank you all so much for the replies.

I'm having it prior to thermo-ablation which is going to be done in May to stop heavy periods.

Dh thinks I'm going to turn into a raving menopausal maniac - says he's going to hide out in his shed
