Anyone has phlebitis in varicose veins that's progressed into a DVT?

I've had phlebitis in my varicose veins in my right (inner) calf for 8 days now. It's been very painful and the redness and pain seemed to be getting worse and spreading upwards to knee level 3 days ago so I went back to the GP who said I could have a d dimer blood test. That was slightly raised so I had an ultrasound and my deep veins were clear. However as there is a small risk of any clot in the superficial veins spreading to a deep vein then I'm going for a follow up ultrasound on Thursday.

I wouldn't normally think twice about this but I'm due to go to France on Friday (by car) and I'm assuming the holiday will have to be cancelled if they find anything in a deep vein and we are so looking forward to this holiday!

I just wanted to know whether anyone has been in this situation before had had a negative first ultrasound but a clot found on the follow up a week later.

I've had phlebitis 13 years ago after giving birth but this is the first time since then . My dad has had 2 DVTs and 2 pulmonary embolisms but think I had a negative blood test for genetic clotting problems after the first lot of phlebitis years ago.

I just want to be able to go on holiday!

I would definitely try to get this checked out. Having said that, I had a similar situation and the GP did say that it would be very unusual
for it to become a DVT as it is surface not deep.

Thanks, lazy. Yes I'm just praying that I won't be one of the rare few where it DOES pass to the deep veins. I've had this for 9 days now and it's still painful.

Mine cleared up on its own. Hope you're the same.

Just in case anyone remembers my post and wonders, my follow up scan was negative for DVT but did show a clot in a main superficial vein from my calf up to my mid thigh. So have had to inject myself with fragmin for my car journey to France as it makes me more at risk for a DVT if immobile for such a long time. But I'm here on holiday so pleased I could come, even if I'm still hobbling round and my leg looks an absolute mess!
