Online access to GP services - how hard to get?

I took my form in on 24 July together with my ID, expecting the process to be as straightforward as it says on their website. The receptionist took the form off me and went and chatted to two of her colleagues. She came back and said 'it'll be about a week, we'll ring you.' Two and a half weeks later I have heard nothing. I phoned about it last week, but couldn't get past another receptionist who told me that applications have to be approved by the practice manager and then by your names doctor and that she hadn't been asked to activate anything.

I shall ring again next week, but our surgery is usually really good, so I wondered whether, actually, this is normal.

Anyone else?

Maybe people are on annual leave but do phone back

I just had to fill a form in at my Health Centre and they printed off another form with the log-in details and password. All done there and then, no waiting.

Ours is done then and there - you just have to bring in ID

I've called them again this morning. The receptionist kept me on hold for eight minutes, allegedly trying to out me through to the practice Manager, and then came back and said they'd call me back. Now waiting.

What on earth is going on?

Sounds like they're making a lot of extra work for themselves!

Mine also just took ID with me and they printed off a form with my login details there and then. Has been v useful for booking routine appointments and repeat prescription requests.
