DS2 (5 months) is feeling poorly today, he has been off colour for about a week but last night it has sort of peaked.
He has a temp around 39.5 - 40. His nose is running his eyes are red and weepy and he is coughing up phlem and being quite sick.
He has done nothing but scream for the past 3 nights and days!
He seems to be swinging from freezing cold with cold sweats to boiling hot!

I'm not sure wether to wait untill 5pm this evening for the dr's surgery or take him to a&e.

I have given him calpol but it doesn't seem to be having alot of effect.

if calpol/nurofen arent working I would go to a and e - it shouldnt be too busy at this time of day and they will be happy to see you - I took dd2 when like this and she had a very bad ear infection I am glad I did

Take him to a&e or a walk in centre. Better now than later when the drunks start to roll in. You'll be seen quite quickly.

If the calpol is having no effect, and with such a high temperature in so young a baby, I would take him sooner rather than later. Would the surgery not fit him in this morning if you explained how worried you are?

Twiglett · 29/03/2007 10:05

if his temp isn't coming down within 30 mins of calpol and nurofen (you can give him both) then take him to A&E

Twiglett · 29/03/2007 10:06

I took DD (at 18 months) when her temp wouldn't come down and she had pneumonia

AnnabelCaramel · 29/03/2007 10:06

A & E definitely. Better safe than sorry.

Charleesunnysunsun · 29/03/2007 10:13

Thanks will pop him up to A&E as our dr's shut this morning.

don;t feel bad ! flu is nasty for an adult, never mind a little one, hope he is ok x

Mumpbump · 29/03/2007 13:00

I wouldn't worry about it - better safe than sorry. I have taken ds to A&E about 3 times in his relatively short life and it has never yet been anything serious. But you don't take any chances when they are that little!

Twiglett · 29/03/2007 15:05

don't feel a pratt .. and if you feel concerned again and his temp doesn't come down after nurofen do go back
