Hi all...i have had blocked ear for over a week. I made an appointment at the doctors to have my ear syringed. Which i have had done before. Been putting olive oil in for a week. Got to the nurse who said yes no problem...having seen said wax...and then said just need the ok from the doctor. Having waited around for a further 15 mins with bored dd he told her not to do it as i have had an ear infection in march??? Jesus these school holidays are bad enough with out having one of my sences down! I now have to be reffered to have said wax apparently...HOOVERD out...aarrgg..we all know when they mention referral thats 6 weeks??? Since when please tell me was such a simple thing as getting your ears unplugged was a kin to open heart surgery???

So you'd rather risk a perforated eardrum then?

Twooter · 09/08/2017 18:07

I used otex express - with the syringe thing to drop warm water. Into your ear. Had my ear blocked for about 6 weeks and finally sorted it in about an hour.

I went for that Hopi ear candle after doctor said there was no wax in my ear. I know people on here will tear there hair out saying it doesn't work and has no medical basis but it bloody does work!! I went for 3 sessions locally and that helped then My friend did it for me and got over an inch of hard orange wax out! It was in the shape of my ear canal which was a bit weird! But no more hearing problems and it was lovely and relaxing too. I'd had an ear and sinus infection in the Feb and had the Hopi in June/July.

It did take a while - I literally spent an hour over a sink alternating between otex and hot water and saw the wax coming out with the water. I couldn't do my job safely without hearing so it was essential - although I'd had two trips to the gp in that time as I was convinced there was more to it ( hypochondriac). Couldn't believe the difference it made.

I used Otex express too. Never been so relieved and was quite satisfied in seeing the gunk coming out so knew it was working.

Good grief don't use Hopi candles!

I had them done and was amazed when the therapist showed me the gunk that had come out of my ear - orange wax just like PP said

I evangelised about the candles to my mate who laughed at me and told me it was nonsense.
I doubted her, so she bought some of the actual candles and burned one over a mug over water

When it was burnt all the way, she opened it up list list the therapist did, and low and behold, the exact same 'ear wax' was inside. It comes from the candle melting, not from your ear

Stick some warm water in a bottle, pierce a hole in the lid and get someone to squirt it into your ear or squirt it in yourself (don't use cold water cause it'll make your balance go).

I used to get awful blocked ears and the piece of wax that came out when my DP did the above was huge! It hasn't recurred since then and that was 6 years ago.

SoPassRemarkable · 10/08/2017 13:06

You can buy a special syringe on amazon....the nozzle has three holes as a safety measure so you can blast all the water in one direction and damage your ear drum. It's amazing.

SoPassRemarkable · 10/08/2017 13:07

cant not can.

PuppyMonkey · 10/08/2017 13:09

OP, I believe there are some people on Sporner's Corner who will be interested in what you get out. Grin
