Breast pain and redness. Stop me googling

I had a painful left breast for a few days. Today it's really really tender and my nipple has swollen and is red around it. It reminds me of when I was breast feeding (5 years ago now so not that) and he'd missed a feed that full feeling. I have Dr's next Thursday anyway for something else. Do you think I need a more urgent one or will it be fine? Also what is it? Google says I have cancer but I know it says that for most things..

I've suffered from several breast abscesses that sound just like that and I've never had children. Being treated by antibiotics sooner rather than later is better if that is what you are suffering from.

I hope it is nothing more serious Flowers

I had this two weeks ago and was really ill with it over the weekend (high temp, shivering). I managed to get an appointment on the Monday and GP prescribed anti-b'd straight away.

I think my infection is as a result of a biopsy and it's still a little sore now. I would get a GP's appointment straight away

Thanks. I've had no cuts or anything to that area so not sure how it's happened! I'm at Dr's Thurs luckily!

Pain, swelling, and redness aren't typical symptoms for breast cancer. It sounds much more likely to be a variant of mastitis, even though you are not currently breastfeeding. NHS Choices is a good place to start while you wait for your GP appointment: www.nhs.uk/conditions/mastitis.

Thanks Hunter!
