Worrying ultrasound results

Hi all. I'm wondering if anyone can shed any light on my reproductive ultrasound nightmare...

I had a transvaginal ultrasound on Tuesday last week to check for PCOS. When I was having the scan, the technician (if that's what they're called?) said that there were cysts on my ovaries, but also pointed out a 'mass' in my womb lining. She said that this was unusual and ordered a repeat scan.

I left the scan feeling a bit worried but thought it must just be polyps or something as the technician didn't seem to express any urgent cause for concern. Then I had 3 missed calls from an unknown number, finally picked it up and it was my doctor, saying he was very concerned about the results and was getting me in for an urgent scan, which I'm having tomorrow.

The 'mass' was actually a 8mm lump in my womb lining, and now I'm absolutely terrified it's going to be something sinister.

Has anyone else been through anything like this and can tell me that it's going to be ok?

The odds on it being serious are low if you are under 50 ( age of menopause) and have had no odd bleeding.

I think the issue is that some people have scans from 'technicians' who are sometimes not qualified to give a diagnosis. (I have had lost of scans but they are done by a consultant radiologist who tells me what he can see there and then ).

Have they suggested it could be a fibroid? These grow in the womb but obviously without knowing more details it's impossible to say.

Good luck OP. Didn't want to read and run. Have you got blood tests organised?

BananaHammock23 · 31/07/2017 14:54

Thanks both.

I'm 27 so I understand the odds of it being serious are slim, but I can't get it out of my head that it's not impossible.

I have had odd bleeding and a constant, dull ache in my lower stomach for months – just like period pains.

I suppose I'm just scared of what's to come. It could be a fibroid or a polyp, but the fact that the doctor said that it shouldn't be there is making me think it'll have to come out somehow, whatever it is.

Good luck banana, the fact they're getting you in quick is a good thing in that whatever it is they can sort you out sooner rather than later. Doesn't mean it's something super serious just that they sound like a good team who know what they are doing.
Let us know how you get on Flowers

Thanks raeray –I'll definitely check back in. It's the urgency of it all that's made me feel worried and upset. I hope the scan tomorrow will reveal more about this ominous lump beyond 'it's there', although I have a feeling this will just be confirmation and then I suppose they'll have to get to it to find out what it is. I'm being an utter dick to my DP, I'm tired and I'm irritable and I just want to know what's inside my bloody womb!

It really does sound like a fibroid.

I'm a bit surprised tnh that no one medical has mentioned this.

Polly –my rational mind is saying it must be a polyp or a fibroid, but my irrational I'm-going-to-be-infertile-or-die mind is saying that the doctor/ultrasound person would have mentioned this so as not to worry me. All I was told was that it's a) an 8mm lump and b) "bigger than we would expect"... I got the distinct feeling that they didn't want to say what it was for fear it could be something else. The doctor is lovely and really did try to put my mind at ease ("you're young, you're healthy, it's unlikely it would be anything sinister"), but I have to admit it's not really worked. I'm really quite scared!

Hope the scan went well and you at least know what you are dealing with Flowers

I have just been through this myself. My uterus lining was 18mm in one section and so they scheduled me for a hysteroscopy where they look inside your uterus and I talked them into a laparoscopy where they put cameras inside your abdomen outside the uterus as I was pretty sure i might have some endometriosis. (Really bad cramps before and during my period). They were looking for a polyp or fibroid in the uterus or hydroplasia (sp?) which is pre cancerous cell growth type stuff. Anyway, they had a look and it was endometriosis on the outside wall of my uterus which is why it made it look so thick. they did some cutting and scraping and 1 week later I am almost back to normal. It is a common thing in middle aged women, there were 5 other similar proceedures all scheduled on the same day as me. The important thing is to get them to have a proper look, take cell samples and figure it out. Good luck

Hi banana, I've been thinking of you too - how did it go?

raeray · 10/08/2017 21:14

Hi Banana, just thought I'd check in again. Hope all ok? Flowers
