Experiences of moviprep / colonoscopy

My mother had bowel cancer in her 50s and I have had some symptoms which could be signs of, amongst many other things, bowel cancer. So I went to my GP and am booked in for a colonoscopy next Wednesday. I have read through the instructions given to me with the moviprep as well as googling it, and I'm dreading it. It lists nausea and vomiting as common side effects. Malaise and pyrexia ( fever - I had to google that one) as very common. I have to be up at the hospital about 40 mins drive away at 7.15 am so was planning to drive myself, but will I be in a fit state to drive the morning after taking the moviprep and after 24 hours fasting? I have to take the moviprep at 1 pm and 6 pm ( I think) on the day before. I feel queasy just thinking about it. Any tips?

@Egghead68
How are you? I'm halfwsy through my prep and really do feel for you, having to endure a 2 x dose of Moviprep Envy

Hi

I had my colonoscopy today - all clear!

Very sore bottom from all the toilet time but super relieved now.
xx

faelavie · 28/06/2019 20:54

@boble1 Glad it went well :) always reassuring to get an all clear!

Egghead68 · 28/06/2019 23:01

Thank you for thinking of me MyBeloved . My redo is not for a few weeks, thank goodness. Hope your prep wasn’t too awful (and most importantly worked!) and that all goes well tomorrow. X

Pissed off. They saw nothing but took 4 x biopsies. They said it is cos I'm no longer in active flare. My referral was lost twice!!! I had an active flare for almost 7 weeks. What a waste of time. I am devastated.

How bloody frustrating

faelavie · 30/06/2019 10:32

I'm sorry you didn't get the answers you wanted @MyBeloved and it's very bad your referral got lost. Colitis is a long term thing, biopsies may show something microscopic and should provide more info or reassurance for you. However it's good they didn't visually find anything...

I've had to reassure 3 people we discovered bowel cancer in this week :( one of them was a young woman with small children.

That's dreadful, @faelavie. And you are right, it is good they did not see anything sinister. I think I was just so focused on getting answers and felt a bit emotional about the course of events.

Glad you got the all clear @boble1

Egghead68 · 30/06/2019 21:44

Sorry to hear all that MyBeloved but also glad they did not find anything really sinister.

Hi all, I am having a colonoscopy next Thurs and am petrified! Had a barium enema a month ago and fainted on the table from the amount they blew me up so dreading this procedure as some have said it is worse then a barium enema. Has anyone had both before to compare? Thanks in advance.
