Mirena coil outside ny womb!

Advice please. After my post coil fit check up they couldn't find it. After scan and x-ray it was discovered to have left the womb and is 'somewhere in my pelvic cavity'. I now need a laparoscopy and potentially further surgery to locate and remove it. It was 'fitted' in December and i was in a lot of pain afterwards. Firstly, noone in the medical profession so far has actually admitted to me that the reason it is no longer in my womb is due to the fact that it has perforated the wall of my uterus either during or after fitting (as far as im aware there'e no other way out?) Doctors have given me vague "oh it's erm...migrated outise the womb" like statments. Secondly; I have today been told that i'm on the emergency list for this operation but they are fullt booked till at least 16th May. 7wks! Does anyone know what the potential risks of having this thing 'roaming' around my abdomen is? Am i right in thinking perforation has to have occurred? Finally, do you think it's unreasonable to expect it to be sorted asap? I have read that perforation is classed as a medical emergency! Sorry for the length of this post.

9 months after discovering my coil was not where it should be I have a surgery date for 23rd March. I want another baby so I also am very interested in what my fertility will be like with the coil gone. It's interesting to note that there isn't anyone here who has stated that they have gotten pregnant after the thing has perforated their uterus but before it was removed, so all the Drs telling me I need extra contraception as it won't work where it is are clearly talking out of their a*se! Can't wait for that op...

i had the mirena put in after my fourth child. I also had it in after my third and had no problems, it wasn't painful on insertion etc which i thought must have been because i delivered vaginaly with the third. It was painful to be put in after having the fourth which i put down to having had a caesar. a few wks ago i had heavy bleeding for a week a few days break and then heavy bleeding again for a week. i knew this wasnt right. i went to the dr to ask to have it out, he tried to convince me to keep it in, but agreed to check it was in place. he couldn't feel the strings. sent me for xray was located. then he sent me for ultrasound to check where in the uterus it was. the ultrasound couldnt find it. he referred me to a gynae, who told me it wasn't in the uterus and had perforated through and is in the left side of my pelvis. i have to have a laparoscopy to remove it but i have to wait till July. I know its not that far away but i feel so unwell. the dr has put me on the pill, as he doesn't think the mirena is sufficient contraceptive since its not where it should be. Also to stop the bleeding. I don't know whether its because i've got both lots of hormones going through me, but i feel so down in the dumps, im exhausted, and i feel like i've got knots in my tummy everytime i eat. I am worried that it will do further damage to my body. This sux, never again.

You need to make an appointment with your GP or wherever you had your coil fitted. tell them what happened, if they can't locate the coil you may need the Morning after pill.
Of course if the pain becomes unbearable and you feel unwell call NHS direct.
Hope you get it sorted out quickly.

How did this go for you? I have exactly the same story and am waiting for an appt with the gynaecologist to get a laparoscopy booked. I had it put in in Feb, it's now July and I don't yet gave an operation date :(

I need to go to the loo all the time, it's painful when I do and and I get aches when I eat or drink anything. Might the floating coil have damaged my bowel / intestines?
