What's up with the skin on my leg? (photo)

Hi all.

Excuse my freckly stick legs.

I have very pale skin and freckles all over, but my right shin is weird. When I was a teenager, I had a kind of lesion on it, that took ages to go away. When it finally did, it took all the freckles from the surrounding area with it!

I know that sounds really weird and unlikely, but it's true. Take a look at the picture, there's this oval-shaped area where there are no freckles. I swear it wasn't always like that. If I try to put fake tan on my legs, it doesn't really "take" on that area.

Is this a thing? What could it be?

Probably slight scar tissue now so fake tan won't 'stick' as well as on non scarred skin.

I don't know, but I have something similar. I have very olive skin with many moles, but on the back of the top of one of my arms is a raggedy-edged patch of pure white skin. It has literally no pigment at all! When i tan it becomes really obvious and the edge is uneven which, as a child, made it look a bit like a dense white rash, although it is mostly a solid patch.

My mum told me it wasn't always like that but that when I was small I scratched my arm on something in the garden and this weird pigment-free patch was the result. Sounds similar but equally as baffling.

Yes! Weird! So strange...

I am convinced it's something sinister Blush

I wouldn't worry Ghost, mine appeared as a toddler and I'm mid-thirties now. Still going strong!

Terrible picture (and possibly upside down...) but you can just about make it out!

Oh, and I'm Epoxy, I always forget when I've namechanged.

Ah yes I see it. Thanks for the photo Smile I guess the skin is fragile and odd things can affect pigmentation.

Vitiligo?

GhostCurry · 01/08/2017 14:49

Could be vitiligo, but it's not in the usual places for vitiligo to show up, and the fact that it seems to be a result of trauma - is that a vitiligo thing? I thought it was genetic... but the body does some weird stuff.
