Cervical cancer- should I be worried?

I bought my first sex toy about a year ago and have had trouble inserting it. I pushed through the pain today and managed to insert it but a few hours after I noticed a little bit of bleeding when I wiped with a tissue. I also bleed after my first smear test earlier this year.

The last time I has sex was about 4 years ago, and I never had any issues with pain or bleeding, so this is a relatively new problem.

I know that bleeding after sex is a symptom of cervical cancer, I assume this applies to anything that is inserted into the vagina? Should I be worried?

Pain = you made yourself bleed.

The bleeding is because you have hurt yourself. You have torn the tissues slightly I expect.

If you felt pain then either you weren't wet enough (not enough lube) or you are not relaxed and the toy was just too big for you!

If you had a smear test within the last 6 months you will not have cervical cancer.

How old are you?

Thank you Polly, that's really reassuring.

I was under the impression that cervical screening only detects cells that could turn cancerous and wouldn't detect if I already have cancer, is this not the case?

I'm 25

If you have had a smear test recently and it was normal, be assured that any cancer would have been found. Yes the screening picks up pre cancerous changes, but it would also find cancerous cells. The person who did the smear should have also looked at your cervix and in advanced cancer which bleeds, they would see evidence of redness or something abnormal.
Can I (kindly!) suggest you have a bit of a read around about stuff because you seem a bit confused. And stop hurting yourself with sex toys! If it hurts, don't do it. Use something smaller Wink
