I really am not in a position where i can come off this medication after 7 months on it and feel fine

HOWEVER - i am fat and getting fatter

Never had a weight problem in my life been 10/12 but my weight is just creeping up and up...does it ever stop?
will i ever lose it?
would a lower dose stop the rot?
any advice welcome !

I don't think a lower dose would help greatly. Have you been on anything else? Do you know why they Px this one in particular?

GreenandBlackOtter · 26/03/2007 19:02

i think it was because i was bfing at the time edie

A lower dose probably wouldn't help.

Most ads, Sertraline included, include changes in appetite as side-effects. That can mean either loss of appetite, or an increase in appetite ... with the resultant weight gain.

EdieMcredie · 26/03/2007 22:12

But weight gain is not one of the more common side effects of sertraline. Can I ask why you were put on them? Is the weight gain linked to your illness (depression can cause weight gain and loss) or directly linked to sertraline? It may be worth switching if you do think it is the AD's as I should think it's getting you down a bit?

I lost weight on Sertraline (though was bfing at the time, but only twice a day)- then gained on Escitalopram.

I have heard the reverse from other people. I think that each SSRI can affect the individual differently and serotonin influences appetite in subtle ways.

If you are feeling otherwise good, it may well not be worth changing the meds, but another SSRI might get rid of the gaining effect. (For me, straight fluoxetine/Prozac always makes me about half a stone thinner immediately and the weight stays off, though I do get twitchy on it.)

i love the sertraline in all other ways but have never tried another
the gp said sertraline DID cause weight gain in more than half who took it despite data sheet

I feel very well ......just hating being at least a stone heavier than i have ever been..

Thankyou all for advice it really helps

Can quite believe what your GP said. Maybe stick with it and see how it goes...
