I've had anitchy bottom for what seems like forever. GP said it could be itchy bottom syndrome and gave me some cream which was worse than useless. She took a vaginal swab while I was there and turns out I have thrush. She said this could be causing the itchy bottom, but cant believe this! never heard of it before, any other poor soul experience this/know anything about it??
Am desperate....!

There's another thread about someone's child having this - everyone else on post said it would be worms but I did suggest thrush as it is possible to get thrush around your bottom, I'm sure - indirectly I should imagine from having it in the vagina, not actually the bottom?
You could do a search on www.netdoctor.co.uk to see if anyone else has had the problem.

It might be worms that makes your bum itch.

it was me,who's ds has itchy bottom. he also has like white patches left on underwear which look very like thrush (having had the vaginal kind)

i have occasionally had itchy bottom with it.

but, how would a boy get thrush on his bottom?

I've had bottom thrush, sort of - it was in the crease of my buttocks, and only while pregnant. I found that making sure the area was dry (not sweaty) made a difference.

It was very itchy and annoying.

Worms and piles also cause itchy bottoms, too.

Just remembered that DS had thrush as a newborn and it started in his mouth and went through his system, showing too all over his bottom (not the actual hole though). I just just used nystatin cream on his bottom from the GP and drops in his mouth. Bit of a tricky one.

How can you tell the difference between bottom thrush and piles? I know I've got piles but not as rampant as they were when pregnant; they don't bleed and don't hurt but are as itchy as hell, esp at night. It's also worse after I've had sex which makes me think of thrush as the wetness could irritate it couldn't it?

bump

or should that be 'bum'...

You definitely can get thrush in the bottom. I was really worried I had something more sinister until my GP confirmed it. Stands to reason, though, as thrush is caused by candida which is in the gut.

well the piles creams haven't improved matters over the last year so I've bought some canesten and we'll see if that does the trick.

DS2 had bottom thrush at about 12 months. Creams from the GP didn't work but he was given something by a hoemeopath that did the tick in one dose. It never recurred.

Can't remember what it was though - boric something possibly??
