Another hospital stay for BabyBoris

Worst episode yet.

Thursday morning she woke up wheezy, got gradually worse so I took her to casualty in a taxi. She was bad but started getting worse. Sat in childrens waiting room with her in my arms, I hadn't rang Nigel or my mum because I didn't think it was that serious. She needed a nappy change so I took her to the toilets, as I walking through the corridor a nurse saw her in my arms and took her off me.

Whisked her into a room, the next thing I knew the room was filled with doctors, nurses and a crash team

Felt like someone had ripped out my heart and laid it on the table.

They did their magic, filled her with drugs and took her to the High dependancy unit of the childrens ward. Whilst there they called the crash team again, but luckily for DD they managed to ease her breathing before they had to take her to theatre.

Stayd in HDU until last night but we are now home

A bad asthama attack + a chest infection = most terrifying day of my life.

We hate hospitals, but the nurses and doctors were amazing and made a very shitty few days bearable.

So sorry to hear that WB - I have a 'happy wheezer' and you have given me great advice on another thread xxx

So sorry to hear this, boris - you must have been so frightened.
Wishing babyboris a very speedy recovery.x

What a horrible experience. We had a couple of episodes with dd2 when she was tiny - they once had the last ventilator at Guy's on hold for her. It's so scary, isn't it? It really is worth fighting for the right medication. I'm asthmatic too and was really suffering and feeling I was getting worse until I changed to Symbicort at Christmas - it was like a miracle. Don't think it's licensed forsuch young children though. I agree about the Nebuliser. When I've needed them myself (years ago) the relief is amazing. It's like deep level relief - when I've neen really bad the Ventolin inhaler just doesn't seem to reach deep enough.

Just seen this thread, WB.
Sending lots of 'get well soon' vibes to BabyBoris.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 26/03/2007 00:35

oh bozza. only just seen this.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 26/03/2007 00:37

OH bugger...I missed this sweet!!!

Very very frightening, I know... It's very scary when they start moving quickly. Been there with DD

Misdee is right btw. You can give as much ventolin as you feel you need to - there is no detrimental effect.

DD is on Becotide and Ventolin but also Seravent which is a non-steroidal preventer. Its been pretty good actually. Might be worth enquiring about. The consultant also suggested, if the Seravent didnt work, long term, low dose antibiotics over winter too because of the chest infections often causing asthma to escalate.

I would also suggest you consider allergy testing. Just to see whether something else may be aggravating her asthma.

Poor little thing.

My best friend in childhood was rushed to hospital at least once every two months with asthma attacks. She was on various steroids and inhalers and was supposed to grow out of it at 5, then 7, then 12 etc etc.

Finally, when she moved out of home at 16 (well, got kicked out), it disappeared and she has never had any real problems since. Was a long time coming, but, it came.

Give her a big hug from me.

xxx
