Is there a way my transvaginal scan caused my miscarriage immediately after?

Just trying to come to terms with things I guess.
Went to hospital on Friday morning at 6 weeks pregnant as advised by my doc due to all my symptoms dropping off and just generally feeling unwell.
I had a transvaginal scan which showed a small sac measuring 4 weeks tops.
When she pulled the scanner out it was covered in blood which was the first I'd seen since falling pregnant. As soon as I stood up the floodgates opened and I've not stopped bleeding since.
I know this pregnancy probably wouldn't have survived, but struggling to come to terms with it all. They told me that if I fall pregnant again I'd be scanned from 6 weeks but this has absolutely petrified me because was it the scan is what ended it all.
Please someone tell me what happened :(

Oh love, I'm really sorry about your miscarriage Flowers

I highly doubt it was the probe that caused the miscarriage. It might just be a terrible coincidence that you started bleeding during the scan.

Take care of yourself xx

No, the scan didn't 'end it all'. The scanner only goes in the vagina, whereas if all was going well your pregnancy would be be protected in your uterus, which is behind your cervix. The fact that the wand came out covered in blood shows that your cervix was open and the miscarriage was already in progress.

I think you had already started to miscarry and that is why there was blood on the scanner. If you fall pregnant again and they want to scan at 6 weeks explain your concerns and I'm sure they will be able to explain how it all works and what the risks are (if any) and you can decide what to do from there.

I had several of these scans mild bleeding is a normal side effect

The mild bleeding is because your cervix is very delicate and even bumping it with the scanner can cause a bit of spotting. It doesn't cause miscarriage though.

Okay that makes me feel a lot better. So basically I was ready to start bleeding anyway, this just got things going.
It's been a very hard weekend, I am sure I'll come to terms with it soon. Just won't forget the image on dh face when I stood up and blood just poured :(
