My hair appears to be falling out at an astonishing rate. I did not dye it during either pregnancy so that means it was last dyed about 2 years ago, just under.
it is falling out all over, not in patches. when i wash my hair it comes out itbloody handfuls and i have to empty the plughole of hair about 3 times during washing to allow the water to go down.
when i gather it all up in a ponytail it is about 1.5cms thick now, its getting thinner and thinner.
i did bleach it then dye it black then belach it back but that was ages ago and it didnt fall out then, it went a bit 'stretchy' or 'chewing gum' as the hairdresser described it, but ihave had it all whopped off since then and grown it back.
im getting really worried and seriously considering shaving it all off and regrowing it.

I think if it was dye then it would happen when you dyed it not 2 years later. It might be hormones or soemthing. Go to your gp if you're really worried. Sorry not much help and hope someone can help you soon.

Not a hairdresser but i would agree that it does sound like a hormonal problem .

when was your last baby born? I had serious hair loss with dd1 but then it was long so v noticeable. DD2 is much shorter and haven't noticed it asmuch.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 23/03/2007 22:21

ds2 was born september last year.
since i dyed it etc i had it all cut really short so this is 'nice' new hair no?
it couldnt have damaged my future hair could it? all the stretchy was cut off.
i am now a full time sahm and we have just sorted our finances so if anything a big weight has been lifted from me stress wise. i am really enjoying being a sahm.

dd2 august and lots of hair out last month
i think.

mine got really quite thin after dd1 but it was long enough to ponytail so like yours you had something to gauge it on.

you can't damage future hair afaiw.

LadyOfTheFlowersAKACodsPatsy · 24/03/2007 15:41

think i should see the doc then?

crunchie · 24/03/2007 15:44

personally I wouldn't worry much, my hair started getting thin about 6 moonths AFTER I had dd2. Just after I had had it cut into a short style which I didn't like much as when it fell out it all looked lank and flat!

BTW when it grew back I came back really curly !!

Bubbaloo · 24/03/2007 17:32

My hairdresser(strangely enough) is experiencing the same thing at the moment and after having bloods done, has found out that hers is due to an iron deficiency, along with stress.

PinkTulips · 24/03/2007 17:35

ds was born in july and i'm still losing tonnes. definiotely sounds like normal post baby hormonal crap but check wth your gp if it's really worrying you
