took ds2 (8) to the doctors the other week as his bottom was itchy and he seemed to have a whitish something (discharge?) being left on underwear all the time.

it had also bled when he went to the loo.

so, she was a bit snotty and told me to treat him for worms and use timodene cream.

i have done this and it made no difference at all.

what could it be?

I don't know, but would suggest you take him back to the GP again - as her suggestions haven't worked, she needs to look at other possible causes.

Someone else will be along shortly with some other suggestions, I'm sure.

must admit does sound like thread worms. there is a tablet he can take but you also have to treat the whole family as they can be passed on via the loo and hands etc so changing all bedding, make sure he cleans hands inclding nailbrush

we have all taken the tablet, ovex i think it was called and i have changed bedding etc. reason i don't think it's worms is that it didn't go better at all and then come back after the tablet, it just never went away.

no one else has had an itchy bum either.

it bled again tonight when he went to the loo

bugger...i hate going to the docs, he showed me up royal on the last visit too!!

it sounds like worms - the bleeding can be from scratching at night. my daughter had pains down there when she was young and the doctor examined her bottom and could not find anything. the pains and moaning continued so i got a torch and shone it where the sun dont shine and saw loads of the worms crawling - arh - i never knew what they were then. ovex is good but has to be repeated

bubblicious · 24/03/2007 23:03

Dont remember as we are talking 9 and a half yrs ago! just remember having them!

Although I also thoght worms - I'm sure you can get thrush around your bottom. Not sure though - perhaps someone else will know?
