Been prescribed amoxicillin and prednisolone - can I just take the amoxicillin?

Having just looked at the list of potential side effects, I'm not keen on taking the steroids. But then, it's only 30mg for five days, so maybe OK? Anyone else just had them for a few days and been OK?

It's for a cough that just hasn't cleared up.

I'm on antibiotics and prednisolone for a chest infection and asthma. I'm on the second course of pred as my peak flow has dropped dramatically. I'm also coughing up a lot of mucky stuff. I'm hoping the steroids will kick in properly but I am sleeping propped up with pillows, which helps.

Yes not even the extra pillows or sleeping propped up on a reclining sofa helped for three nights. It’s cleared a lot now though in terms of volume. Mucus varies in colour’and on last day of second antibiotic course.
