Implanon contraceptive implant - anyone else had irregular periods and horrible depressive pms?

I had the implant put in about 2 and half years ago. The first 2 years were great, no periods, didn't have to worry about contraception. But the last 7/8 months things have gone a bit haywire. My periods have returned, but really irregularly - sometimes every two weeks, then a couple of months with nothing.
I've been getting absolutely horrible pmt - a couple of days of crying at everything and feeling like a completely worthless pile of crap, but because periods are irregular I don't realise what's happening at the time, only realise a couple of days later.
Only got a few months left to go before the implant has to come out anyway, but I'm thinking of getting it out earlier.
Anyone else had this happen?
I'm worried it's not just the implant causing the pmt and it'll continue once it's out, never had it like this before, just been generally irritable.
Blimey, this got long, thanks for reading and any advice you might have

no advice, just bumping as I am having the same problem- had implant in since nov 04 and everything great for 2 years but all of a sudden have irreg periods (sorry if TMI, but theyre not like proper periods either, sometimes just old blood)

Don't know about the PMS (although I bet DP would!), seem to be a bit emotional all the time but have other things going on in my life that I put this down to instead.

Anyone else have any clues?

Thanks Novacane, I was the same when they first started coming back, not proper periods. I went to the doctor at the time cos I was worried the change meant it was less effective.
She said the hormone levels from the implant drop over time so your own hormones start taking over again, hence periods coming back, but that it was still ok, didn't mean it was less effective.
There are particular things that I get upset about, which at the time seem rational, if a bit overwhelming, but then a couple of days later I get my period and think, ooh, that's why it was affecting me so badly.
I dunno, it's messing with my head a bit.
