Unusually light period/spotting for 12 days but BFN.

I usually have really heavy periods that are painful with clots. However this month, around the time I was due, I started my period. The first few days it was really very light, and then I had 1 day of a slightly heavier flow with a couple of clots, but nothing as heavy as I normally get. After the 1 day of that heavier flow It tailed back off to being very light to the point now its spotting but very minimal/barely there when I wipe.
This has went on for going on to 12 days of this and I have no clue what could be going on. My cycle is like clockwork every month.
I knew pregnancy was unlikely as we have been told that conceiving naturally will be really tough for us and we need IVF - Plus in the 5 years of ttc we haven't had any success.
I called the GP on Thursday (day 10 of this) and spoke to the triage nurse who didn't seem concerned but just advised me to take a test anyway to rule out pregnancy. I done that on Thursday afternoon and as expected it was negative.

Anyone else had any similar experiences/can shed any light for me? I'm planning on going to see the GP on Monday if I haven't stopped by then.

I would request the GP on your next visit that you are referred to a gynaecologist for further evaluation. This is patently not normal and not something you should simply put up with. Painful and heavy periods with clots are not normal either; you need a diagnosis first and foremost. (Endometriosis can be a prime cause of heavy and or painful periods). This is also not something that the GP practice should be dealing with directly.

Are you actually receiving any fertility treatment currently; why has the idea of IVF been mooted?

Thanks Attila. I used to get cramps much worse years ago than I have the past few years, but can still get the odd month where I'm in a lot of pain.
IVF Is on hold atm until I shift the weight, which is proving to be an uphill battle. But that's another moan all together!

I will definitely be requesting a referral on Monday. The Triage nurse I spoke to just said that she wouldn't be worried unless it lasted a long time and was heavy and had clots. She was happy to leave it at that until I stated I would call back on Monday if this had not stopped, to which she just said ok.
I think on Monday I will be insisting I get to see a GP rather than triage. Thanks for the advice. 😊
