Is this a bug or intolerance??

My dd, 8 months, has had explosive runny poos for the last week. This generally only happens once a day (at different times) and the poo is really runny with some lumps, followed by water. It involves a full change of clothes as it jets up to her neck.

We have taken her to the doctor, who said nothing but boiled water for a day, as it was a bug, but the nhs website does not say this for babies. We have put her on a bland diet (bananas/white bread/baby rice) plus her usual formula. She has been on the same formula since i stopped bf at 6 months and seemed fine on it, but her nursery thinks perhaps she could be intolerant to it, or perhaps to dairy...hence the bland diet.

Yesterday evening we gave her pasta and veg because she seemed v bored with her food...and hey presto, an explosion this morning, after a restless night.

Hv on friday thought probably a bug. My question is...do bugs last this long and only cause one explosion a day? Her poos yesterday were ok. Does this sound like some sort of intolerance? any similar experiences/advice would be gratefully received.

ps...she has not been running a temperature at any point or been off food/milk.

Sorry, no advice, in my rather uninformed opinion it does sound like a bug, maybe another trip to the dr is needed. Fingers crossed for you!

i couldn't give ds dairy for 3 weeks after he had d&v bug he was 9 mo at time - he still wanted to eat and was happy in himself it just wasn't worth it because he'd be sick everywhere! it defied all size to volume ratios!

he couldn't have formula for a week so we went back to fruit puree with baby rice in and boiled water

if worried it could be intollerance i'd go back to weaning basics and introduce foods like wheat and dairy slowy again

sounds like it could be a bug to me, hth

THanks for the posts. I think it may have been a bug and now we are left with the aftermath. We have pretty much gone back to basics with food and cut out dairy and meat. If it continues I will cut out the bread, and perhaps look at whether she needs to be on soya formula.
