Kidney problems after pregnancy?

Hi. I had dd 5 months ago and since the start of June have been unqell to varying degrees with what my gp has diagnosed as kidney infection. I was really ill the first week and was given antibiotics, which didn't work. A second set did work but I was eft still feeling generally unwell adn with a sort of burning pain on my left hand side that was often quite tender. I saw my gp last week and he prescribed more antibiotics (since I started them I've had a stomach upset but am too scared to go back as he said the last time that if they made me sick I'd have to go into hospital- it was hard for him to find som ebecause I'm bf and there were limited options). He's also arranged 2 scans for Tuesday morning- one for UNrinary Tract and one of the abdomen ( I think).

THe gp said it could have been caused by after effects of pg or by kidney stones. HAs anyone else had any experience or advice on this? I'm so fed up of it, especially as poor dd is teething and not sleeping well. IF it was the pg that caused it (he mumbled something about tubes getting squashed) wouldn't I have had symptoms before now? ANd wouldn't kidney stones be excruciatingly painful?

I've had various UTI's in the past, including a horrible one at 34 weeks.
Sorry for going on but any advice would be much appreciated (I'm drinking sooo much water, the only advice I@ve been given) I'm such a worrier!

Hayls, not much use but when I had a UTI at 26 weeks and was in hospital, the obs there said if I didn't treat it, I may end up with a kidney infection post-delivery.

I'm sure someone more knowledgable will post soon. Hope you get better soon.

Thanks for your replies. Funnily enough, Yorkiegirl I didn't have much of a bump either- got fed up of all the 'aren't you small' comments. Guess dd was pressing herself into various organs! The antibiotics I tried were Amoxycillin and I think Cefuroxime and Cefixme-excuse sp etc but I'm not sure. GP also gave me one that when I checked it out was incompatible with bf. REally helfpful.

Will persevere with the water and force myself to drink cranberry juice (yuk)and await results of the scan.

Thanks again
