I came back from St Lucia on Wednesday quite relieved that I had only gotten one or two mozzie bites. I had waged a proflactic war on them and sprayed myself and my clothes everyday and worn long sleeves and trousers in the evening. I have gotten a very bad reaction before and was wary.

So my one or two bites itched a bit but diddn't swell up too badly, one of them was a bit crusty iyswim but not abnormal. But tonight when getting ready for bed I looked at it and it has turned an alarming shade of dark red, like a birthmark about an inch accross with an irregular outline.

Now I am a bit freaked out but don't think I should google.

Any ideas????

Don't panic just yet! You could be allergic to mossie bites which is why you've had such a strong reaction. I lived in the West Indies as a child and when I first moved there at 7 years old, had loads of problems. I remember my parents having to cut a dress off me 'cos a bite had gone so big and ozzy - it was disgusting

I would just go to the docs to be on the safe side. Is there an emergency number you could ring first thing in the morning? Our docs has a weekend service from a local clinic which is very good. You'll feel better if you put your mind at rest.

In the meantime, maybe clean it up with a bit of surgical spirit and pop some anti-hystemine (sp) cream on if you have some.
